Best so it was fun planning with my sister-in-law to give her this 60th surprise! It was the most amazing birthday surprise I have ever attended. I mean, my brother and sister-in-law moved there from Idaho! You should have seen her face when she walked in and saw them there!
60th Birthday Decoration Ideas At Home
The main focal point of the decor is a BIG 60’s collage that I made out of cardboard. I organized thousands of photos (luckily my husband has this powerful photo organization system) and converted them all to black and white (I thought it would look more coherent). Then I collected refrigerator boxes from our local appliance store and cut them into 60 pieces. I used old fashioned tape to tape all the photos. Then, to hang it on the wall, I used a 3M hook and some glue.

It would be better if you let the photo extend a little beyond the edges. When I had it all, I felt it still needed a little something. So I came up with the idea of wrapping Christmas lights through it. I was worried about it adding weight but the 3M hooks worked just fine.
For the color scheme, I chose gold, mint and peach. It’s a fun, feminine color scheme that’s perfect for a baby shower or girls’ party. I got these pom poms and banners from Amazon. And here is the arrow. The caveat is that the mint doesn’t match, but I think everything is fine.
I tried to make the sugar cookies the right color. By the way, these are Jamie Cooks It Up’s Copycat Cat Cookies. You have to try them. Umm Now I think I have to go do some work (that’s good.). They are not your typical sugar cookies. oh no Here’s something extra. (And it’s delicious if you serve it chilled). But I digress!
I saw the idea of attaching photos to balloons as part of the party decorations and gave it a try!

You simply punch a hole in the photo and tie it to the balloon. But, I learned a very valuable lesson – understand them both ways! The balloons will move continuously with all the air currents in the room and this is not a problem if you have double sided photos. Just use some glue to attach the second photo to the back. I kept running trying to flip the photo forward.
And last but not least! I can’t leave you free printables. I love this quote: “It took 60 years to look this beautiful.” My aunt sent it to my dad as a t-shirt for his 60th birthday and I thought it was hilarious.
