Design Concept Graphic – The goal: to inspire and encourage young designers to choose creative tools to express themselves in design. Work on developing their unique style and shaping their personal creative process.
A selection of prints have been created for young designers to help them develop their visual style and technique. The work consists of writings divided into three categories: informative, meaningful and creative, with the titles: “Repetition”, “Follow-up” and “Discovery”. The content of these publications informs the graphic designer’s process of creating visuals, as well as invites and encourages creative experimentation.

Problem: The process of creating a visual design requires a variety of visual solutions, depending on the purpose of the graphic design. Thanks to the Internet, various sites, modernized computer programs and digital tools, a designer does not have to create all the visual content himself. In the work of a designer, it is often seen that a lot of trust is placed in the possibilities offered by the digital world and with less and less manual and tangible actions with analog materials and tools. Creative tools, effect libraries, geometric templates, visual storage and many other resources for creating graphic and visual content are easily and quickly accessible. As a result, self-created tools for creating visual content are being forgotten and becoming less and less popular.

Philosophy: The guiding principle and philosophy behind the creation of this design edition comes from the Latin wisdom “Omnia mea mecum porto”, which translates as “I carry everything I have with me”. This clearly indicates that our greatest wealth is in what we think and do, what we create with our hands and what cannot be taken away from us. The idea I chose was graphic design, because I am studying and have a hobby. The first contact I made was with graphic design and art. Like art, design is universal and also has artistic elements such as form. The art is also expressive. I took this idea further, showing that color is used for expression and that bright colors are more effective, depending on the situation. Thinking about color reminded me of the discussion we had in class about fire trucks being red when they should actually be neon or bright yellow. This idea only makes sense because red blends in more with the environment than bright yellow. Bright neon yellow is generally understood (when used on vehicles or on clothing) as a warning symbol that draws people’s attention. Graphic design and art are intended to attract attention and communicate with individuals. Which brings me to the next connection I make. Design is used to communicate an idea visually and through this it is possible to transfer ideas. When ideas spread, they help us learn. The red branch on my concept map shows that graphic design gives us information. Once I mapped out ‘information’ I was able to link it to communication. Furthermore, information can globalize us, embedding values and lessons that others can learn through communication.
The most direct branch of the idea was blue and he says that graphic design uses computers. Computers, especially Macs, are very useful and give artists tools that can be used to do business effectively. Of course, the designs can be created by hand, but with the widespread use of computers, the possibilities are endless. Programs like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, In Design and many others are loaded onto these computers for designers to use when creating. I made the connection from the Mac to the simple, really “ah ha!” moment for me I realized that simple visual communication is the most effective because it uses only the necessary elements to convey the message. The connection from simple to understanding illustrates this idea. The last article I did was graphic design that could be abstract. An abstract visual representation makes the individual think and breaks through an idea hidden in the visual. The connection from abstraction to thinking shows this, and by extension, thinking leads to discovery, which will excite everyone. Abstract images are also representational and not literal. The idea is not completely drawn, some nod.
Concept maps are very useful for taking an idea and expanding it to discover new ideas that were previously unrelated. I knew graphic design was related to art, computers, and information, but I didn’t know it could be related to discovery or understanding. Without these connections, a given concept can only be partially understood. I found that expanding on an idea made it much easier to understand the concept and therefore make full use of it.
