Ideas For Decorating Dining Tables For Christmas – Disclosure This article is sponsored by Better Homes & Gardens. As always, opinions and ideas are 100% my own. This post may also contain affiliate links.
Tis the season for fun! I don’t often get a chance to decorate the table or have a dinner party that includes a centerpiece because our small house doesn’t have room for a large table. I’ve been wanting to put together some simple holiday table ideas lately, so I convinced my good friend Rebecca of Make and Do Studio to let me borrow her beautiful home to create some simple, modern Christmas dining table ideas.
Ideas For Decorating Dining Tables For Christmas
When I was planning the Christmas table I knew three things. I wanted it to have a simple and slightly modern look with mixed metals. I also wanted it to be neutral, yes I was thinking black and white, but I love the pop of dark green that I’ve been seeing everywhere this year and I wanted to use it.

First I used a white cotton fabric to make the center table. I used a 45″ plain and old fabric that I folded in half to make a solid runner. If you’re looking for something solid to add some color to your table, try adding something with a pattern that isn’t too busy. A polka dot or buffalo check would be really fun.
While shopping at my Walmart, I came across green bottle plants in a variety of sizes that I knew would go well with the metal lamps and gold mirror that is my new favorite table.
I found gold lamps in all three sizes small – medium – and large. I filled the large lanterns with silver Christmas ornaments, the centerpieces with Homes & Gardens gold mercury glass votives, and the smaller lanterns I turned into tiny snow globes with fake snow and small brushwood trees.
You can fill these lamps with anything, that’s what I really like about them. Think candles, bells, pine cones, a small bouquet of flowers and many ideas!

When it came to choosing the elements for the place settings, I knew I wanted a modern touch. I am so in love with the fun Geometric Better Homes & Gardens Gray Triangle Lines Dinner Plates I got. It’s actually melamine, I really liked the pattern and knew it was exactly what I wanted on the table so I decided to use melamine for dinner and a salad plate. I mixed a plain Better Homes & Gardens white salad plate on a patterned plate. When it came to chargers, I lucked out and found Better Homes & Gardens wooden chargers at my local store for less than $1 a piece. They are not sold online so check your stores, they have great wood color and texture like real wood.
When it comes to glassware, I’ve had my eye on these FunBetter Homes & Gardens Honeycomb Stemless Wine Glasses for a while and really wanted an excuse to buy them. They were the perfect addition to this table, metal with a geometric design.
I also really like the NewBetter Homes & Gardens Corin Black 20 piece flatware set, black flatware is very popular this year and looks amazing. If black isn’t to your liking, it’s also available in rose gold. Both are very nice, the black flatware added some metal to my table setting with its metallic finish.
I added this soft Better Homes & Gardens velor reverse to the Sherpa throw blanket for a pop of black and white. I love these throw blankets, they are so soft and fluffy and perfect for those fall nights and they have such a cute texture.
How To Make Elegant Christmas Table Decor In 3 Easy Ways
Last but not least, for a final touch of metal and a little geometric design, I spotted these Better Homes & Gardens Gold Wire Tea Light Candle Holders at my local thrift store. I added one to the end of the table to add candlelight and some candle holders that I placed inside the gold lamps.
I love how easy it was to put everything together. The table wasn’t too difficult to decorate, it wasn’t long enough to allow the guests to keep talking, and I love how the metal shines. The best part? I got everything displayed here at Walmart so I wasn’t running to different stores trying to find everything. Looking for ways to decorate your holiday table?
