Decoration Ideas Valentine’s Day – There are years where I can’t wait for January so I can decorate for Valentine’s Day. January is usually a depressing month because Christmas has just been put down, and I don’t really have any decorations. It’s not until the end of January that I finally get around to putting up Valentine’s decorations around the house. I’m currently gathering a lot of inspiration from the web and it’s showing up all over my Pinterest boards. I thought it would be fun to show you some of the things that get me excited for Valentine’s candy decorating inspiration!
1. Ceramic Dish- This picture is actually from our December wedding 2 years ago, and I absolutely love it. We searched high and low on the internet to find the prettiest pink and purple candy. It’s not easy trying to buy candy in October when it’s still 100 degrees outside, but I’m so thankful it all worked out! My favorite part of this inspiration picture is the ceramic starter dish. We put them on our faux curtains (we live in an apartment so no fireplace), and fill them with candy that we color during the holidays. Of course, Valentine Matthew and I always get pink and red M&Ms.

2. Apothecary Jar- As my own wedding apothecary jar that comes out just in time for Valentine’s, I can’t help but love the way House of Smiths decorated it last year. My sister actually introduced me to the House of Smith blog a few months ago and I love it. What makes it even more fun is that she puts white crinkle paper in the bottom of the jar and then fills it up. This gives texture to the jar and makes it more interesting to look at. I will definitely borrow that idea this year!

3. Conversation Heart Candy Topiaries- This DIY looks super easy and only uses a few items. All you need are some fun candle stick holders (for larger candles), hot glue and a hot glue gun, styrofoam cones, and conversation heart candy! This is an absolute gem from our Forever House and would look perfect on an end table in your living room, on your mantel or even as a table centerpiece.
4. Valentine Candy Flower Arrangement- I found this image on Pinterest the other day and had to find out where it came from. This is from Chelsea Nicole Photography, which I found on the website of Utterly Engaged! Carnations are back, and I love how full and flowery they look in this picture. If you can’t afford peonies or they aren’t sold where you live, carnations are definitely a great option. I would totally do this for our coffee table. I think it would be cute on top of 2 or 3 love-inspired or vintage-looking books!
5. Valentine Candles – If you want to decorate on the cheap then these candles are a great idea. I don’t know why I never thought of that! Use a small glass vote, fill it 1/3 of the way with Valentine’s sprinkles, and place your vote inside! If you’re like me and also decorate your bathroom for the holidays, this would be fun on the mantel, on a small table, or even on the edge of your bathtub.
6. Candy Skewer Bouquet- This is another idea I wouldn’t have thought of on my own! I love how easy the project is and how fun it will look around the house! All you need is your favorite heart-shaped candy, wooden skewers, a vase, and something to fill the inside of the vase so you don’t just see the sticks. I’m not sure how long this decor will last in my house. Matthew loves chocolate and will grab it any chance he gets! I have a feeling if I made it, it would probably last a few days.

7. Candy Floats- This is one of my favorite ideas ever. There is so much creativity! It looks like an ice cream sundae glass filled with M&Ms, a pixie stick, chocolate heart candy, taffy, and maybe a little round styrofoam ball to hold all the taffy together. Ah I love it! At least these will be super-glued so I can use them all month and Matthew doesn’t have to worry about eating them all!
8. Cupid’s Arrows- Although these aren’t made of candy, they sure could be! I saw these cupid’s arrows and thought they would be super cute with conversation hearts or sweet heart shaped candy at the end. It would be fun to put in a jar like this, or put on a serving tray to pass out when guests arrive.
9. Candy Wreaths – There are tons of different versions of candy wreaths for Valentines all over Pinterest. Most of those conversations use candy hearts, but I love how this guy used sour gummy hearts! It was definitely a different idea, and one that I could only copy! My only concern with this is if bugs try to eat it. Also, it will really only be good for a year (whereas I’m sure conversation hearts will last forever. Who knows what those things are made of!?) Maybe seal it with some kind of sealant. Sprinkling does the trick. To preserve it for at least one month.
10. Candy Garland- This candy garland isn’t made of candy but looks good enough to eat! This blogger made her own heart out of chipboard and painted it for a fun, festive Valentine wreath. This is probably my favorite of all the ideas and looks so easy to make! I also love how she used them to decorate the area of her house where she had a small candy buffet for Valentine’s. Such a fun idea!

Simplistic Farmhouse Decor For Valentine’s Day — Kristin Peddicord
Ever since I took down the holiday decor, it’s been in clean slate mode, and my curtains need a bit of a hug.
You may remember that we took down all the Christmas and winter decorations before we left town on our family ski trip.
I purposely left my dining room looking like this, so I could rethink the room a bit…and have my eye on the spring decor mode and all these beautiful spring decor items.
When it’s cooler outside… it’s a great time to indulge in some crafts and playful decorating that you may not have time for during the spring and summer months.

You may remember the post I shared last month, “How to Decorate for Valentine’s Day (The Easy Way).”
And let me tell you, I still say toss the chocolate candy into a heart-shaped bowl and make it work for Valentine’s decorations.
First, I collected branches from my yard and I put an old sheet in the front yard.
As an aside – sometimes I think my neighbors think I’ve completely lost it. I mean who paints tree branches in the cold of February?

Next, I used this heirloom white spray paint that I had in my paint supply and I spray painted these brown branches white!
Now, I was ready to make little heart ornaments in the form of 3D paper hearts to decorate my white tree branches.
