Cricut Design Space Mug Template
The Cricut mug press takes all the guesswork out of sublimation mug printing. With Cricut non-fusible ink transfer sheets or non-fusible ink markers or pens, you can easily create any cup design you can imagine.
Cricut Mug Press
Sender sheet designs will look dull until heat activates the ink, creating a bright mug that looks professionally designed.
The cup press comes with a simple lever that you press when you’re ready to transfer your design, so you don’t need to know what temperature or time to set for the heat transfer process. I love this one tap feature!
The best aspect of the Mug Press is the results. The mugs are both dishwasher and microwave safe. The design is also smooth and permanent, meaning it won’t peel or peel like vinyl.
Safety notes. Always work with non-fusible ink in a well-ventilated area, as sublimation can produce fumes that can be irritating to sensitive individuals. Please see the Cricut Non-Fluent Ink Safety and Warnings page for more information.
Cricut Mug Press: Here’s Everything You Need To Know
If you’re looking to buy a new machine, keep in mind that the Cricut mug press requires compatible Cricut blanks. You can find “sublimation compatible” blanks or film online, although Cricut does not guarantee results with non-Cricut products.
Here are some varieties of Cricut blank cups available today. Some even have multiple color schemes for added excitement.
If you choose a non-Cricut product, here are the specs you should look for according to Cricut’s Mug Press FAQ:
Activating the Cricut Mug Press is a simple process. After removing the heat press, plug in the machine and connect it to the computer using a USB cable.
How To Combine Projects In Cricut Design Space
In the Cricut Design Space, click your profile name in the upper right corner and select Settings. (Note: The location of the new engine settings has just been changed from the top left menu to the top right menu.)
Once you’ve opened the Settings menu, go to the Machines tab and select the Start button next to New Product Setup (see image above). From there you will choose to activate the new heat press and select the Cricut Mug Press.
If you don’t have a USB port, you can often find adapters for your computer, or you can borrow someone else’s device.
It is important to register your cup press as they regularly update their firmware. When selling the mug press, the new owner will also want to register the hot press in their account.

If you’re looking for a versatile heat press for making t-shirts, wine bags, tote bags, or other flat projects, be sure to read my EasyPress 3 review.
The list of supplies may seem daunting, but these are items you’ll use in many ink projects that can’t be put together. Check out my Infused Ink Guide or Infused Ink Pads for more examples of sublimation projects.
Notes. Other Cricut machines like the Cricut Venture or Cricut Explore Air can be used, but I’ve listed the ones I use most often for mug projects.
This tutorial will cover the steps for using non-fusible ink transfer sheets, but I will notice a significant difference when using non-fusible ink pens or markers. When making mugs with an ink pen or marker, you will need laser copy paper and three layers of butcher paper.
Infusible Ink Mugs Using The Cricut Mug Press
The key to working with a Cricut mug press is to properly organize your design in the Cricut Design Room. Mug design templates will be your best friend!
Avoid many headaches by starting with this simple template. It’s actually not easy to find if you’re looking for a Cricut Design Room.
You can choose cup size and design template in settings. For this tutorial, I chose the large (15oz) Straight Edge design because I imported my SVG file.
If you are working with a cup template, make sure your design fits in the shaded area, leaving about 1/2 inch of the cup handle on both sides. (This 1/2-inch margin is especially important for designs that also use pen or ink markers.)

The best part is that these designs come with personal, commercial, and print-on-demand licenses. This is almost unheard of in digital download sites.

How To Make Your Own Cup Wrap Designs On Cricut, A Beginners Guide! I …
Before you send your design for cutting, be sure to hide the cup wrap template by clicking the eye icon while hovering over this layer.
Next, select the design layer and the outer cup shell cut layer while holding the Shift key before clicking Add.
Using a standard or lightweight gripper (for copier paper), place the non-fusible transfer sheet on the mat, print side up. In the Cricut Design Space, select On Mat as the material loading method.
Click the Mirror button to ensure that the design will be formatted correctly when applied to the cup. Then click Continue.

Choose a non-fusible ink transfer sheet as the transfer material or laser copier paper when using ink markers. After you have followed the instructions for loading the material, press the flashing Go button on the Cricut machine to start cutting.
You will notice that the template cuts the cup outline twice to ensure that you can remove the entire outline from the sheet along with the liner. For the design itself, you’ll want to remove the excess that you don’t want to transfer.
To break up the design, use the “crack and peel” method of folding the carrier sheet and gently pull up the construction pieces. To prevent damage to the infused ink, do not use weeding tools or sharp objects.
You will notice that there are additional layers on both sides of your design. This will help position the design when you wrap the mug.
The Ultimate Guide To The Cricut Mug Press!
Once the cup press is connected and the lever is lifted, press the machine’s power button. It will automatically start heating. When it is ready, the light will turn from orange to green. One of the great safety features is that the cup press will automatically shut off when not in use.
If you ever forget the steps to prepare your mug, you can refer to the online Cricut Panas manual. Each step is listed for easy reference.
While the mug press is heating, rub alcohol on a cotton ball to clean the mug. Then use a lint roller around the surface of the mug to make sure there are no fibers left that interfere with heat transfer.
Wrap the design around the mug, leaving an equal distance on both sides of the mug handle. To easily manage the design, place the mug on a flat surface and wrap the design around the mug with the handle facing you. Make sure there are no air bubbles when smoothing the design.
How To Sublimate On Mugs With Cricut: Sublimation Tutorial For Beginners
I like to secure my transfer sheets with heat resistant tape to prevent the ink from shifting before or after the transfer process.
(Take it from me, I once had a design change when I pulled a mug out of a hot press and left a small stain.)
Once the design is securely attached to the Cup Press solid green light, place the cup in the press cup with the handle facing you. If you are using copier paper with non-melting ink pens / markers, place the first three layers of paper around the cup.
When pushing the lever down, make sure the cup design is completely covered by the hot plate. Never allow the fool to climb above the hot plate below the Mug Press, because this can damage the machine.

Safety Note: Pressing the Cricut cup creates an odor when the sublimation ink changes from a solid to a gas. Always work in a well-ventilated area.
The light on top of the hot press will show progress and beep when done. It only took me 5 minutes and 47 seconds to complete my Christmas mug project. Yes, I am a smart person who knows!
