Design Ideas For Living Room With Front Door
We walk straight into the living room when we enter the house, so I really enjoy designing a space with a purpose and a warm welcome when our guests arrive at our home.

Although this living room can be arranged in many ways, I knew right away that we wanted to use the sofa to create a difference in the space. By placing the sofa with a back in the entrance, it creates the impression that the living room and the entrance are two separate spaces. While some may say it “cuts” the room, I disagree! You can create this distinction in many ways depending on the size of your room. Using furniture is a great option, but something as simple as having two rugs, accent lighting, or adding a special wall treatment (wallpaper anyone?!) in the entryway can help the space feel separate
Console tables, chests or cabinets are other great ways to define an entryway. It allows for a place to put keys, a place to adjust ambient lighting, and a perfect place to hang decorations. If you don’t want to take up precious floor space, a narrow bench or a wall shelf, you can do it here! My last entry was a very tight closet and I used a shallow shoe cabinet (same as this one) and it worked great!
In my current position, it was important to me to have a unit that doubled as storage. Entryways can turn into clutter magnets, so having these cabinets has been a lifesaver! Inside the cabinets I have mail baskets, dog leashes, hats, caps and blankets.
Another practical entry is a must – a clear place for jackets, shoes, umbrellas… anything one might bring and need to put away. I’m lucky to have a coat closet, but hooks or coat hooks work great! If I don’t have a closet, I can put a rail on the wall. I love this dresser for small spaces (the white/natural color is currently sold out at West Elm, but I found it here!).

My last house had a hallway but no coat closet, so I had lots of hooks for people to hang their coats on! It was usually full of coats, but we took some of our things into the bedroom when people came over. And here’s another tip for you – before your guests arrive, make sure your closet/hanger is empty of hooks or hangers! It’s even more fun when there’s room for guests’ luggage.
Whether you have a dedicated foyer or not, treating the entryway as its own room and decorating it that way is invaluable in creating a welcoming space that really sets the tone for your home. Adding glass to your entryway is not only fun, but it also reflects light (making your space look bigger!). Plus, having a place to do that “last look” before leaving home or entertaining guests is very practical.
Adding art and plants or flowers is a fun and exciting touch and an opportunity to show your home’s personality upon entry. Don’t be afraid to go big or bold here!

From making sure the back of your living room doesn’t face the entryway to arranging furniture around the fireplace, there are some simple feng shui tips to help your room look better—and look good, too. Living rooms are designed for a variety of purposes – some are great retreats to unwind after a long day at work, others are designed with entertaining in mind. And although you can adapt the color, design and decoration of the room to its overall purpose, remember that the room should be treated as a meeting place, both for your family and friends. “The sentence indicates that it is a residential area,” explains Cho. “Typically next to the front door, it’s a more intimate room in your home compared to a bedroom or office, so the color and layout should reflect that.”
Amato likes bright colors if you have frequent guests and soothing sounds for those with a more relaxed lifestyle. “If the living room is active and often used for entertaining, it’s appropriate to add more bright colors like yellow and orange. The palette is more appropriate.”

The world of energy around us. “It’s important to balance the five elements to create a harmonious environment,” Amato said. You can apply it to your home decor or “display it in other ways on purpose.” For example, as opposed to choosing the color red, consider using everything from animal prints to triangle shapes to represent the element of fire in your room.
However, yes, you should go with the colors you are naturally drawn to, there are several palettes, from warm neutrals to dark purples, feng shui experts point to the living room. In addition, there are several designs and decorations that should be considered when choosing furniture. Here’s what Amato says is worth keeping on your radar:
If possible, try not to face the entrance of the living room with the back of the sofa. “The best furniture arrangement is one where, when you enter the space, you can see the sofa ‘greeting’ you,” says Gomez. “It will draw you into the embrace of the room.”
Decorating A Small Living Room: Maximize Space
But let’s face it: there are some design strategies that don’t fit into this framework. The solution? Add a narrow console table behind your sofa to display decorative table lamps, accessories, orchids or even a water feature. “In this way, the person sitting on the couch feels more protected from the person next to them, while those entering the room have a more attractive view,” he added.
Amato also likes to weave in mirrors if the sofa cannot be placed in a “commanding” position. Hang a mirror so the owner can see the entrance if it’s not possible to face the door,” he said.
Your home should feel united in the world of feng shui. Walking is important. It can be as simple as being able to walk around the living room with ease or keeping the space nice and clutter-free. “If you’re doing a lot of twisting and turning of furniture, or you find yourself bumping between chairs, your adjustment is too tight,” says Gomez. “Open things up and maybe remove a piece of furniture or two, to increase the flow of Qi.”
Inner brilliance requires balance. You’d be surprised how much a dimly lit room can calm your mood. On the other hand, if a room is too bright, it can be distracting. For these reasons, Gomez likes to cover the lights. “The best solution is to have different types of lighting, such as low table lamps for mood lighting, with recessed ceiling lights for general lighting. And if possible, put the lights on a dimmer switch. “
Tips To Create A Living Room Drop Zone
“Plants bring a woody element to a place,” Cho said. “They bring growth and strength, but they are very healing.” In other words, they live in the same room. Amato recommends plants with rounded leaves—think jade, golden pot, and lucky bamboo plants. But Gomez says she’ll stay away from cacti. “Choose soft, fluffy plants with feathery leaves rather than sharp or spiky ones,” she says.
