Simple Idea For A Sympathy Card

Mother’s Day is upon us again! As you know, I love a good hand written Mother’s Day card. I made a beautiful wreath in the shape of a heart, which you can see on this blog.

As always, if you don’t have time to make your own cards, grab one on the blog here. I created it using white floral watercolor and a beautiful asymmetric frame with Mother’s Day calligraphy in the frame. You can get free print from blog post.

The DIY card I’m sharing with you today has been around for a while. I made this card last year and shared the video on Pinterest!

A video tutorial has just gone viral, but I’ve never shared step-by-step instructions on how to make a DIY Mother’s Day banner and card. This year I decided to change it up and put the cherry on top of the card, I’ll let you print it out to help make the doodle banner easier.

Using a pencil, draw a continuous “S” shape keeping in mind the length and size of your doodle banner.

Leave about half an inch below the beginning of the first “S” shape and draw another parallel line.

You can leave more or less space between types. It all depends on how big you want your banner to be.

Using a monoline pen or any other pen of your choice, start tracing the two shapes you drew and connect them to form a banner as shown in the picture below.

Connect the two shapes with a line and close the ends with a vertical “V” shape on both sides of the doodle flag.

In this case, I decided to put a line behind the flag. This will help give your banner dimension and character.

You can also cut this part completely like I did for the Father’s Day version of this card.

Add floral designs to the top and bottom of the banner to complete this Mother’s Day card.

You can draw more floral doodles if you want, make sure not to overdo it and keep individual doodles around the standard flag.

This is where you can get creative with your cards! You can use this arrangement on occasions other than Mother’s Day – birthdays, graduations, your reflection and many others.

I used a white pen and wrote “Happy Mother’s Day” in modern calligraphy. You can use the pen you used before. I love how the white pen contrasts with the black ribbon banner and floral doodles against the kraft paper.

First take your seaweed. We’re going to squeeze it a little bit, so we’re going to get the water out. Then we use colored water. I make circles.

Next, take one of the water markers and dry it on the parts with water color. This is how we create the water effect of the water and the markers in the seaweed.

To speed up the drying process, remove the fabric and wipe to remove moisture.

Handmade Birthday Card Ideas For Dad!

Repeat the steps above with the necessary markings for the watercolor background. I make three different colors because I will throw balloons on top of them in the next step.

Draw rectangles with a black marker and turn them inside out. This is our birthday card.

Make sure the rectangle is large enough to fit the letter. And if you want to add more length, you can draw more squares.

Now that the watercolors are completely dry, I use Pigeon Lettering Mono Line Pen 03 to draw the balloons.

Bow Birthday Card

Using the best font, write “Happy Birthday” in the black space we drew earlier. I use this Craftsmart Extra Oil Paint Marker, but you can use a gel pen or any white marker to mark the back rectangle.

If you like the style of block letters. I want to do, I made you a block letter paper. Fill out the form at the end of this blog for a FREEbie!

I was invited to a child’s birthday party (if you are a parent, you know that birthday parties are an inevitable part of raising a child, haha). I have enough brain space to organize gifts and even wrap them (in a way that makes me a little proud). And then… I realized I didn’t have a card!

I decided to go with a fun (read = easy to draw) cute candy theme that any child would appreciate.

Here’s how we got the job done. I’ve been flooding our Facebook group every morning to share painting ideas and instructions. Then I upload live recordings to the blog so you can always see them. 🙂

Here are the sketches and drawings I came up with. You can see the creative process in the video above.

I started by drawing 4 different designs for the DIY cards. First I loved creating candles (see below) and based on your feedback, I decided to go to cupcake design. Of course, I think cupcakes are the cutest and make the card recipient happy. Thank you so much for your input! Therefore, it is better to do it together. 🙂

Handmade Cards 2023

My creative process always starts with research. Here are some ideas to get you started on DIY cards.

One idea is to have a beautiful and unique (because every wash is unique) background with letters on it. Easy and fast!

Alternatively, you can use a plastic bag to create a quick, easy and waterproof watercolor background. The woman in this video uses a marker to add color, but you can also add a little liquid to a plastic bag for the same effect:

Another idea is to grab a few colored dots and add a doodle icon over them. I love doodle flowers and love this effect. Easy!
