As a child, preparation for Diwali in our family started a few weeks before the festival itself. The atmosphere in the house and in the city markets will increase at the same time. People are naturally motivated to create memories by decorating your home both inside and out. However, for those of us living outside India, this may be a little different.

Outside of India, Diwali is not celebrated by the majority of the population. There is not much enthusiasm for Diwali outside our homes or in the markets. Nevertheless, we try our best to pass on and convince our cultural traditions to our children. We want them to have the same childhood memories as us.

Diwali Decoration Ideas For Your Home: Diy

Every Diwali I try to entertain the children with all the decorations, lights and fireworks. Now they look forward to it every year. Even if your busy schedule doesn’t allow time to implement all the ideas presented here, do what you can. Something is better than nothing. I am sharing some ideas from my home Diwali decorations that you can use as a whole or in pieces as you like.

Diwali is the festival of lights. Outdoor decorative lighting is the man’s responsibility, and he really turns it on, grabbing everyone’s attention in the neighborhood. The pictures don’t do the effort justice, but the overall lighting effect was breathtaking.

He used professional installers for the skylights, which cost about $500. He could do the rest of the lighting himself, as it could safely be accessed by an ordinary household ladder. For the goods and the frame around the lamp post, he used programmable LED string lights. He decided to go with grid-style LED lights for tree trunks, house posts and large plants. Regular LED string lighting was used to create a pyramid around the lamp post.

The kids loved helping with the Diwali decorations, making it a family project. The child was busy managing the spikes for the rope lighting while the middle school student gave her ideas and handed her father tools to climb the ladder.

In Indian tradition, the main door has a special meaning. Many Indian traditions revolve around decorating and performing various ceremonies at the entrance of a house or puja room. The same goes for Diwali decorations.

During my last visit to India. These are just some of the usual things I get from India every time I visit. Diya refers to an earthen lamp used in the Indian subcontinent. These days you can get decorative diyas in Indian grocery stores in almost every major US city. They are also available on Amazon if you don’t have time to visit a local store.

After a lot of research, I decided to use artificial flowers that I found on Amazon. I was pleased with the overall quality, feel and look of the flowers. I also used fresh flowers from my garden at a local shop. The lights were purchased from Pier1 Imports.

Diwali 2020: Quick And Quirky Home Decor Ideas To Brighten Up Your Home

You have the option to make rangoli with both colors and flowers. Since I have a small child, powder colors don’t seem like such a good idea. So I went for a simple design that can be done quickly in 10-15 minutes with a combination of natural and artificial flowers.

Have you noticed urli before rangoli? Urli, a brass bowl for holding floating candles and flowers, adds another dimension to any festive or ethnic decor. It breathes life into your static decor, making it dynamic with floating candles and flowers.

Next is the entry foyer, which is the first sight any visitor to your home will get. It creates a first impression and anticipation to see what else is out there. It should convey the festive mood of your home, while creating a wish and getting into the festive mood. The foyer decor shown here uses a central Ganesh idol sitting on an elegant medallion table and surrounded by decorations consisting of brass artifacts and ornate tea light candle holders.

I used my existing bangles as candle holders, which are inexpensive and a great way to add an Indian touch to your decor. I have a huge collection of bangles, so I grabbed some here to decorate the tea lights.

The Ganesh idol was gifted to us by my brother. Here I have used brass bowls as urlis. You don’t need to buy urlis or use a brass bowl to add urlis as a garnish. You can use any flat shell to create the same effect.

In the picture above, I have used Kundan Rangolis to decorate the floor. Alternatively, you can use a rangoli design like the one shown below. In my case it only took a few hours with a running baby.

Inside the home, you can add small decorations in various places to change the overall look and feel of your home and make it more festive. For example, I decorated my living room coffee table with candles and flowers.

You can easily see that I am a big fan of Pier1 Imports. Most of the items in this decor are from that store. Whether you’re looking at the table or the candles and candles, all of the products are from Pier1 Imports, which I’ve collected over time. I keep moving them around the house to create new decor with different combinations.

I have a good collection of runners and trays. They are my weakness. So when I see a good designer piece, I tend to buy it for future use. The tablets provide defined space and a focal point of attraction, allowing me to focus on a limited area. Runners add another texture to a room and help create color contrast and enhance other decor elements. I also used Kundan Rangolis as a space filler to give it an ethnic touch.

Another example is fireplace mantels, which are usually the focal point of the living room in an American home. You can create a beautiful ethnic decor by simply placing some artifacts on the hearth of the fireplace and in the area directly in front of the heat.

Here I have used a combination of three independent elements to create diversity with the overall aim of showing the different ethnic elements of India. I used two beautifully decorated elephant heads with nettipattam in combination with brass instruments. I fell in love with Nettipattam’s adorable elephant heads during a visit to Kerala and couldn’t resist adding them to my collection. I love the authenticity they add to any room I use them in.

5 Best Diwali Light Decoration Ideas To Try At Your Home

The last but the most important place where you decorate your home for Diwali is the pooja room and the temple. Laxmi pooja is the most important part of the entire Diwali celebration which is done in the temple’s pooja room. My family moves every few years due to the nature of my husband’s work. Therefore, although I would love to have a separate pooja room, I have to share with the office at the moment.

For this I use a handmade wooden temple with Rajasthani work with a matching background. This backdrop uses a tulle fabric embellished with peacock feathers, pearl bandanawar and pearl threads. The ends of the veil cloth were tied with brass elephant diyas. This setup enhances the pooja angle.

The door to the pooja room that I share with my home office is also decorated with bandhanwars and flowers. Try adding small details like satiya stickers and Maha-Laxmi footprint stickers. The swastika is associated with Ganesha and the traces of Maha-laxmi are associated with the goddess of wealth and prosperity. These small details greatly increase the impact of your decor.
