Good morning! Happy Friday! We were frozen all week. We’re going to get into crazy chaos here. Ha ha! That’s why I’m excited about this awesome event today! I’m excited to partner with the Creative Crafts team to bring you Valentine’s Day printables, cutting files, and more! Annnnd I’m so excited to share how to make your own cut files using Cricut Design Space. Isn’t this Valentine’s Day T-shirt cute? Let’s get started! 🙂
Easy Beginner Cricut Project
First, you need to create a cut file. My daughter used her Ipad Pro to draw XOXOs and made this beautiful XOXO cutout. The most interesting thing is that it is his own handwriting. You can also use image editing sites like PicMonkey or Canva to design a beautiful portfolio using your favorite fonts and designs. NOTE: The simpler the design, the easier it is to create a nice clean cutting file. Save your design to your computer and you’re ready to go!
Making your own cut files is easy! You can also do this with your silhouette. For reference only.
Next, you’ll click all areas around the image. Notice how the middle of the last O is stable. Click on it to get a blue and white square image. Then click Apply and continue.
I chose clip art for my photos. I then named mine XOXO and slapped a Valentine’s Day sticker on it. Then I click upload.

It’s very simple. Place it on the canvas. Make sure the lock is on, then you can modify it to suit your project. 🙂

Hello crazy friends! Making paper animals is one of my favorite paper craft projects! They make sweet and unexpected gifts for birthdays, holidays, or just because. I’ve made six animal stickers so far, including a fox, penguin, sloth, owl, panda, and cat. The first three are available as free downloads on my blog and the last three can be found in my Etsy shop. The notepads in my store already come with a guide to setting up files in Design Space using the ad-free image editor.

If you plan to grade Notepad manually, you must remove the scoring sheet from the cut file. They will appear as bright pink dashed lines in the SVG. Seven in total, written on three large sheets of paper surrounding the notebook. If you don’t change them to “scores”, or delete them, they will cut into your workload.
Download the SVG cut file and save it to your desktop. Open Cricut Design Space and start a new project. Select Upload and upload the SVG cut file and add it to the canvas. Select the entire image and click Ungroup.
If you use an SVG cut file that contains score lines, you must tell the Cricut that those lines should be scored before cutting. Highlight the score line, there are 7 in total, and change it to “Fraction” under “Work”.
The line will change from solid pink to dotted. Under the Layers panel, they will also change from Basic Cut to Fractional.

Then attach the score line to the box. If you skip this step, the Cricut will place the score line on its own mat. To install them, select a category and click “Install” in the lower right corner. The section will move to the top and say “Installation”.
The fraction line is now attached to the notepad and ready to cut! If there are gray areas in the cut file, it looks like you need to change it to white. You can do this by using the Shift key to select all the components at once and then changing the color under the color options next to Actions.
When you go to cut, double check that the mat is marked with straight lines. If your machine has that feature, plug in your marking tool and start cutting!

When you get your first Cricut machine, it can seem overwhelming to imagine how to complete a simple task, let alone something more complex.
There are a lot of things in Design Space alone, plus you need to understand different types of files, what projects you need, and there are many more.
In this post, I’ll take you on a tour of the Cricut Design Space and quickly explain what each project does (with pictures!) so you understand how to use the Design Space over time.
In this tutorial, I’ll be using Design Space on an iMac laptop. You can also access it on mobile devices such as smartphones, Android devices or tablets and laptops.

Some special features are only available on the desktop version of Design Space, such as blades (for Cricut Maker), print and cut, curve tools, pattern fills, and templates.
If you’re using an iOS device (like an iPhone), there’s a feature that’s only available on iOS devices called “Snap Mat” that you can use to arrange where all your clippings will sit on the mat.
Much of what we’ll discuss below applies to all types of design space software.
If you’re using a laptop or iOS device, you can use the Cricut Design Space app offline!

You’ll need an internet connection to download the app and log in, but once you’re done, you can design your own Cricut projects and cut them without an internet connection.
The offline feature is available on the desktop app and the iOS mobile app, but unfortunately not on the Android app.
Let’s start by looking at the first screen you see when you open Design Space: the Home screen!
In the upper left corner you’ll see three lines (this is the menu), then “Home,” “Welcome, [[your name]]” and then “My Projects.”

After that, there’s a drop-down menu to choose the type of Cricut machine (options include Cricut Maker 3, Cricut Explore 3, Cricut Joy, Cricut Maker, Cricut Explore Family), and finally a “New Project” button.
There are Cricut ads at the top of the home screen, then My Projects (all your saved projects), a Popular Videos playlist (helpful tutorials from the Cricut YouTube channel), and various Cricut Access projects, which are included since you can purchase them a la carte. With your Cricut Access membership.
Near the bottom you’ll find projects from the community, seasonal projects, maker tool projects, and my ready-made projects (projects created by professional artists).
Here you can edit your About Me section, profile picture, and you’ll see your social media activity (if any).
