Decorating Ideas For Living Room On A Low Budget

Decorating Ideas For Living Room On A Low Budget – I followed Joanna Gaines and now my new obsession is Sarah Richardson’s Studio McGee. She was my design inspiration. I found some of her designs a little bold, but others I liked with a capital ‘P’. I bought her books, bought several of her pillows, made other pillows from her fabric, and watched every episode of her I could find online and on HGTV. .  Does all this make me a crazy stalker? No?  Okay, okay.

It’s simple, elegant and so beautiful. I knew I wanted to recreate it as well and as economically as possible. I’m looking for a ninja. I had an empty room in my house that used to be a playroom until we finished the basement. It just sat there and waited for my Sarah to rest, and at a price acceptable to my husband. This room was supposed to be mine…no kids allowed and it was my “office” (even though I wasn’t working). But everyone needs a nice office or a nice room in their life, right?

Unfortunately, I only have one good photo of this room since we listed our home, so yes, you are seeing the same photo as above.

Let’s talk about my favorite item in this room… the mirror. I found it at Hobby Lobby and the last time I was there it was still there. I made sure to buy it when HL had a 50% off mirror sale. I’ll also be honest and say that it’s just as hard as being a mother. No sugar coating. I had to ask a store clerk to help me put it in the van and a complete stranger had to help me carry it home. At that time, we were adding a porch to our house, and one of the friendly workers helped me. Yes, that’s how far I went for this mirror. But it’s still one of my favorites, so it was worth it.

My sofa was purchased at my favorite store of all time… World Market. Looks like they are retiring this sofa (b00). If there’s a world market near you, I’d check it out as it’s heavily discounted right now. Don’t worry, Pier 1 and Wayfair have similar seating. And if you love color, World Market has a sofa in a similar color. Amazon also has some cute sofas.

My coffee table was an Amazon find. I’ve had it for years and it’s held up pretty well so far. I don’t recommend having kids dance on it, but for a room that doesn’t draw too much attention, it’s perfect and exactly what I was looking for.

I bought my curtains at Target and added a navy blue trim to liven them up a bit. I made something similar to my IKEA curtains in the new house. It’s an easy way to add interest to a room and only costs a few dollars.

My lamp was found in a thrift store and I replaced the shade with a new, modern one. If you can’t get it in store like I can, this one from Pier 1 is cute and a great price.

I found my faux fur rug on Tuesday morning, but you can find similar ones on Amazon or IKEA. I really had every intention of covering it with a jute rug or stripes, but never got around to it before we moved. I was looking at this beauty for a new home. And if there’s one thing in my house that my husband hates, it’s my faux fur rug. He still comments on it.

And I can’t forget my accent wall. First I starched the fabric on this wall. This was not my original idea. I saw this on one of my favorite blogs at the time. It wasn’t as easy as I thought. Actually, it was a real disaster. But I learned a lot from this experience… I realized that I won’t be plastering walls on walls any time soon. That’s how wallpapers appeared. I love the wallpaper and plan to use it in my new home. The background I was using has been discontinued, but now there are many options. I saw this wallpaper at Anthropologie and have a good feeling it will be in a new home. And being the bargain hunting ninja that I claim to be, I found the same wallpaper on Amazon.

My ceiling lamp (which everyone in my family laughed at, but I still loved) was a Pottery Barn sale. A similar one can be found here

There were many different pillows on my sofa in that room. You can find my navy polka dot pillow on Amazon. Those pillows lived on the sofa for a long time. Always check the pillow section at Hobby Lobby…next to the curtain and fabric section. They have tons of pillowcases that are cheap and sometimes on sale for 1/2 off. My white jute-trimmed pillowcase came from there and cost about $4.

And since putting new floors on the ground floor and then selling your home 4 months later makes sense, that’s what we did. Our floors are Pergo Nashville Oak and in the 4 months I’ve lived with them I’ve come to love them. We bought them from Lowes and installed them from Lowes and I was very happy with the installation.

I really have so many projects for the new house, including another beautiful room just for me. But for now I just have to watch until Pretty Room 2.0 is finished.
