Modern Tv Above Fireplace Design Ideas – Jan 28 Ask Joshua: Top tips for keeping your TV above the fireplace without taking over your living space.

My husband and I recently moved from a large house to our new house as part of downsizing. We were excited about our new home, but we didn’t think about the layout of our living room furniture. Our living room is smaller than we first realized and now we are debating where to put our TV.

The challenge is that the wall above the fireplace is the only viable option since it already has an electrical outlet built into it. The living room has a wall on one side but windows on the other side. We hesitate to put the TV on the wall because of the reflection, which makes watching TV less enjoyable. The only option without windows on one side is a fireplace wall.

I didn’t like the idea of putting the TV above the fireplace because I thought it didn’t look good. I don’t want the TV to dominate the fireplace, a design choice I’ve seen many people make and dislike. Maybe this is the trade-off for downsizing in our lives – maybe we’ve downsized a little?

The question is, how do we make our fireplace look good with the TV above without overwhelming the entire view? Also, what size TV do you recommend? I have attached pictures for reference.

10 Ideas For Above Fireplace Decor

Have you considered a Samsung Frame TV? I talk about this TV a lot, but if you don’t know, when it’s not in use it works like a piece of art, blending into different styles without dominating the entire environment with a plain black screen. I wrote a blog about this. The TV comes in a variety of frame colors and finish options, allowing you to customize its look to perfectly match your living room.

Another suggestion is to consider painting the fireplace wall and mantle different colors. This can enhance the overall look, especially when combined with a TV frame. I’ve included an example of my previous design work above, where I worked with an e-design client to create an attractive fireplace with a dark paint color along with a TV frame for their living room.

Regarding the size of the TV, here’s the size guide I’ve come up with. Since the TV is mounted above the fireplace, its width should not exceed the width of the cover, or it may throw off the balance and not look attractive. This allows you to reconsider the width of your mantle, which is always an option. For the fireplace, I recommend making the width of the TV a few inches shorter than the edges of the mantel, ensuring a balanced look for your living room.

Many of you have asked for a long discussion on this topic and I think it’s an interesting idea…installing a TV above the fireplace. Should you do it? Is it a design flaw? Too much work? What do you do when this is your only option? What is the best view? I break it all down in this article! Click to read all about it…

I’m not against installing a TV above the fireplace, but it all depends on the height of the fireplace, other ways in the room, and the size of the TV.

I know that doesn’t give you a straight answer, so let’s break it down first. Why is the TV above the fireplace a poor choice to begin with? Well- a lot of people worry about craning your neck to look at it…it’s not the right height to look at. The exception to this is if you have a modern fireplace or a small fireplace (measurements, especially height, definitely come into play). Another concern is the TV competing with other focal points in the room – fireplace, window, built-ins, etc. Many people hate to see an ugly TV placed on top of a beautiful architectural structure in a room.

Something to remember? We live in an age where technology and television are different for every home. They bring them to life in the moment; They bring us fun, happiness and something to connect to our family. They can be a bigger part of life than you think. Creatively bringing them into your home will make them feel less cluttered and cluttered.

How To Arrange A Living Room With A Fireplace

So what is the ideal situation? To be honest, there is no TV above the fireplace. Or at least, the TV messing with the fireplace

In our current home, we decided to create a room dedicated to watching TV. This happens in the basement or media room

, as we like to call it. I understand that this is a fun and rewarding part of living in a big house – a place dedicated to watching our favorite things. Our common room

Our previous homes with limited space would never have been able to accommodate anything like a “media room”. What will happen to TV now? The way I see it… you have different options:

Can You Put A Tv Above A Fireplace?

You know what I did in our first house? Secondly. Guess what I did in our second home? Thirdly. All this to say –

For example, the living room. The TV can only live on one wall and it is above the fireplace. why We have a large picture window on the left side of the room, the entrance wall that opens to the kitchen near the window, and given the amount of space – the bed only fits in one configuration. This means that the TV should sit on the wall of the fireplace. We decided to remodel the fireplace and add built-ins. Why did I choose to install the TV above the fireplace instead of to the left or right of one? Honestly – the asymmetry can bother me and our TV is too big to fit

I weighed the pros and cons and tried to minimize the situation as much as possible. I like the TV above the fireplace so the room feels right, but that means it has to be installed above the proper viewing height. Therefore, I tried to solve the problem when buying a sofa. What you want to look at in this situation is the length of the back. The problem with installing a TV above the fireplace is usually the stress it puts on your neck looking up. I would make sure to choose a sofa with a back where you can lean back and rest your neck comfortably on the cushions.

If I could redo this situation in our old living room, what I would do differently would be upgrading the TV. Yes- you know I’m going to mention the Samsung Frame. It’s smooth too

Speaking of Frame TV – this is definitely on our wish list this year! I’ll take any opportunity to make TV look like art… it’s like no use. If you don’t have the budget for it, don’t worry! There are other ways to “disappear” the TV…hide it behind a panel, hinge artwork, mount a gallery wall around it, etc. Get creative.

A final option is to embrace asymmetry. Type-A personalities and OCD sufferers can’t get behind it, but many do- it works! Try to add balance with other objects or architectural features by installing the TV to the left or right of the fireplace at the right viewing height.

. I personally like the asymmetry in the image below, as opposed to the image above… simply because it feels more intentional and detached. Maybe try using one side of the fireplace and a bench or something else
