Book Cover Design Ideas Aesthetic – Hello Fairy Graphics friends! I’m Diana from Dreams Factory and I’m happy to be back to share another DIY project with you! Today I have a great tutorial for you, showing you how to quickly make book covers from old kraft paper with a chic floral touch! If you already know how to make them from the good old days, you can use the tutorial as a reminder, but if not, you’ll be surprised how easy this technique really is! You can keep the kraft paper wrappers simple or decorate them however you like, the possibilities are endless to get creative with these!

We will use a beautiful black and white Cherry Blossom image to decorate the packaging and a French ephemera image with a vintage frame. All of these images are included in the printable I created for this project so you can easily make these beauties in no time!

First, let’s talk about the kraft paper you need for this project! I used a kraft paper pad from Clairefontaine to make the packaging, but also to print the images – this will give your finished packaging a more cohesive look. If you can find that exact type of paper, you can use it, but if not, you can use any other type of kraft paper pads or sheets you have around, as long as they can also be used for printing. If you only use plain kraft paper for packaging, you can use it to make packaging and use a different type of paper for printing. The colors may not be exactly the same, but I’m sure the end result will still look great!

Easy Flower Front Page Design For School Projects And Idea Note Journals

Here is a printable with beautiful Cherry Blossom images and French ephemera labels that I created for you! You can see that I’ve included a few different images in a few different sizes, so depending on the size of your book, you can choose between them. And to give you more options, I’ve added 2 versions – a black and white version without a background and one with a kraft looking background.

You can use this kraft looking background to print on regular paper to get a similar kraft paper effect.

You can use any type of book for this project – old or new, notebooks, journals, planners, the sky’s the limit! If you use pre-cut sheets of kraft paper like I did, keep in mind that you need to make sure your book is smaller than the paper and have a little more space around it. This will kind of limit you when covering smaller books, if you want to cover something larger, you will have to cut the paper to that size yourself.

Ideally, you’ll need about 1-2 inches (2.5-5 cm) of extra paper on the top and bottom, and about 2-3 inches (5-7 cm) on the left/right sides, but you can do it. also works for smaller sizes.

Grasp the book with one hand on the paper and use your fingers to make a horizontal fold at the top and then at the bottom edge.

Use the folds as a guide to fold the kraft paper up and down. You can use a ruler if you want, but we’re not looking for perfection here, so your fingers will do! Just make these two horizontal folds as straight as you can.

Close the kraft paper wrappers and make sure the book is centered, then use the book inside as a guide to create a vertical crease on the edge of the front wrapper with your finger.

Open the paper cover and using the vertical crease, fold the top cover – the left side of our paper cover as it is laid on the table.

Open the book and place the front cover in the folded paper bag on the left side. The book should move easily.

Close the book again and place it on the table, then use your fingers to create a vertical crease on the back of our paper cover, using the book inside as a guide.

Open the book and fold the paper vertically and simply place the back cover of the book inside.

Now we can go decorate the covers with the adorable prints I created for you!

You can choose to leave a small border around the flowers if you like, or you can remove the excess paper entirely if you prefer.

Choose your favorite flowers and French ephemera labels and place them on the book to see how they look together.

You can use the other elements to decorate other books or save them for other projects, but here’s a great trick you can try if you want to give the flowers a bit of a 3D look. Choose a flower image the same size as the one you stuck on the envelope and use scissors to cut out the individual flowers – I cut out three and this time I tried to remove the excess paper around the edges to reveal more of the beautiful shapes. Using the end of the brush, press the center of each cut flower individually while holding it in your hand to make it small.

Use some glue to stick the center of each flower on top of our design, making sure the flowers are positioned exactly like the design below.

If you want, you can choose to decorate other kraft paper wrappers with the same images, or you can use other images to decorate as you wish! I decided to keep things simple as I liked the black and white look of my envelope, but of course you can use your favorite medium to further embellish the paper if you like. You can try using distress inks, watercolors, pastels, or even your favorite stamps to decorate the front cover, back, or top image, just use your favorite. You can even use your gel plate to decorate the paper before or after you create the wrappers, just treat the kraft paper like a blank canvas and customize everything to suit your style!

The end results are absolutely amazing, don’t you think? Who knew kraft paper packaging could look so good?!

As you can see I also added a small cut off branch to the left side of the flower image, I thought that side was a little unbalanced and needed a little extra care.

This old-school technique is very forgiving, you’ll see that the covers won’t be perfect, but they’ll still be absolutely gorgeous! You’ll have to be a little careful handling the open books as we didn’t use any glue to secure the covers, but you’ll get used to them quickly.

This technique was initially used to protect book covers from damage, but I like that we were able to give it an aesthetic role in addition to its first function. With this simple wrapping technique, you can have fun creating beautiful kraft paper covers for all kinds of books, notebooks, journals, planners, or anything else you can think of, regardless of size! You can create stacks of these beauties and use them as decorative items in your home, or you can quickly decorate the cover of your junk newspaper, the sky is the limit! Not to mention they would make perfect last minute handmade gifts for a special friend’s birthday, they are so easy to make and can be ready in no time!

I hope you enjoy this project and decide to give it a try! You might also like printable paper book covers HERE and printable magazine covers HERE.
