In this article, we’ll show you how to create a logo on Canva (spoiler: it’s incredibly easy!).

Before we dive in, for those of you who don’t know what Canva is, here’s a quick overview.

Canva is an extremely user-friendly online drag-and-drop design tool that allows anyone to create amazing designs without the need for any design expertise or experience.
Canva is a free tool, so you can mostly use it for free and download an unlimited amount of free designs.
However, there are some features that you can only use if you pay for a subscription to Canva Pro (or try their 30-day free trial).
When it comes to creating a logo on Canva, the easiest option is to start with a template.
How To Use Canva Templates
Canva currently has around 1,400 logo templates that you can use as a starting point for your logo design.
When it comes to searching for templates on the Canva homepage, you have a few options, you can just search for “logo” in the search bar (or make your search more specific, like “beauty logo”):
This will show you a bunch of related logo templates that you can easily browse to find the one you like:
This will take you directly to the Canva editor where you can browse or search for a specific location and select a logo template from the Templates tab on the left:

Note that if you only have a free Canva account, the above methods of finding and selecting a logo template will mean that you can only create a logo with a maximum dimension of 500 x 500 pixels.
With Canva Pro, you can easily change the dimensions of your design, but if you plan to stay with Canva Free and want a logo with larger dimensions, you’ll need to:
On the Canva home page, click the “Create Design” button in the upper right corner, click Custom Size, and enter the dimensions you want your logo to be (eg 2000 x 2000 pixels):
When you click ‘Create New Design’, you will be taken to the editor where you can search and find the logo template of your choice. Your logo design will not be downloadable in the custom dimensions you choose (for free):

Be aware that not all of the templates on Canva are completely free (don’t worry, many are still free!).
Some logo templates contain Canva Pro design elements and can only be used if you have a Canva Pro subscription.
You can find out which templates are completely free to use by hovering over the template thumbnail, and if a “free” label appears on the template thumbnail, you’ll know it’s 100% free to use:
If you hover over a logo template and the “free” label doesn’t appear, you’ll know it includes Canva Pro elements.
How To Create A Logo?
You can also add templates to your “Likes” folder, so you can browse logo template options, save your favorites, and return to your “Likes” folder to decide which one you want to use later
To add templates to your Favorites folder, just hover over the template thumbnail, click the three dots, and then select “Add to Favorites”:
To access the Likes folder, go to the Folders tab on the left side menu and navigate to the Likes folder:
Resizing and moving design elements is extremely easy. All you have to do is select the elements you want to edit and click and drag to move them to the canvas.

As you move an element around in Canva, it will show you how it fits with other elements in the design, so it’s easy to make sure everything is aligned and in the right place:
When it comes to resizing, all you have to do is click on the element you want to resize and click and drag to zoom in or out:
To see the customization options for a specific design element, just click on the element you want to change and the customization options will appear in the top row of the editor.
From the toolbar, you can change the text font, size, color, and make general changes to the text, such as bold or italic, underline, and uppercase or lowercase.

Note: Some fonts are only for Canva Pro users, so you won’t be able to use them if you only have a free Canva account.
There are also some additional text effects that you can use. For example, you can make the text hollow or shadow it with one click:
To add more text to your design, go to ‘Text’ in the left side menu of the editor and select the text element you want to add to the canvas:

To delete a text element from your design, simply select the element and press Delete or click the trashcan icon in the upper right corner of the toolbar.
When it comes to the graphic elements of your logo design, Canva offers you several features.
When you select a graphic element, you usually have the following options in the toolbar – the ability to change colors, crop or rotate the graphic:
You can also add alternative or additional graphics to your design by going to the ‘Elements’ tab and finding a graphic that matches what you’re looking for.

But if you have something in mind, you can search for a specific design like we searched ‘abstract’ to find interesting shapes for your design:
Deleting items is similar to deleting text, select the item you want to delete and press the delete button or click the trash can icon.
Another thing to note about the graphics on Canva is that, like the fonts, not all of them are available to free users.
If you see a crown icon on a graphic, you’ll know it’s only for Canva Pro users. So if you don’t plan to upgrade, you can simply use the free elements for your logo:

A useful feature that simplifies the process of creating your logo on Canva is the ‘Merge’ feature.
You can group elements together, making it easy to move or resize them while keeping them all aligned and sized.
To merge items, simply select the ones you want to merge (you can hold Shift and click the items to select them at the same time), then click “Merge” on the toolbar to:
Other customization options useful for creating logos on Canva are adding transparency and changing the position (or arrangement) of design elements.

To change the transparency of an element, simply select it and then click the transparency icon at the top right to adjust it to your liking:
Finally, a great feature of Canva is that you can easily turn your logo into a dynamic logo.
To add animation, click on the background or gray area of your logo design in the editor and an option to “animate” your design will appear in the toolbar:

How To Create An Awesome Logo (for Free)
With a free Canva account, your options are pretty limited when it comes to uploading your logo.
As you can see in the image above, Canva Pro users have some options enabled, such as the ability to upload your design with a transparent background.
Ideally, for your logo design, you would have a version with a transparent background so that you can easily add to different designs and platforms.
By far the easiest option would be to get Canva Pro, but for those of you who don’t want to invest in Canva Pro, we’ll show you how to create a free version of your logo with a transparent background. !

Upload your logo design, select the “Magic Wand” button, click the logo background, and then click “Remove Pixels” in the right menu:
The background should be removed, but you may have to repeat the process a few times to get all the background pieces.
On the next screen, click “Export Image” and you can finally upload your logo with a transparent background:
