Design Ideas For Corner Desk – We are in the process of doing a little room upgrade for Kate, our 12 year old daughter! When I turn 13 in November, I hope to have it all done. She requested that all saturated pink be removed from her room. I also ordered white walls, which we paid to have done and I love it! Now the room feels bright and fresh. We needed to rearrange the layout of his room to accommodate a new queen bed (upgraded from a twin) and a new wardrobe. While doing all this, we had to move his corner desk to the opposite side of the room. And here she is!
We got this corner desk in 2019 and luckily we got it because Kate was homeschooled for most of 2020. This desk works so well in her little room! It doesn’t have a lot of enclosed storage (a small drawer), so we bought plastic storage dividers at Target to fill with pens and scissors. This desk has a magnetic whiteboard on the back so customization is easy! It looks like an integrated blackboard and gives personality to the space! This desk has a hole in the back for the lamp and computer cables to drop down to connect.

Kate had a pink desk chair, but we recently opted for this one for a more monochromatic look! FYI… the corner desk opening isn’t huge, so I wouldn’t recommend this desk for a tall or older person. This desk was built and installed at our IKEA so we made sure it would fit Kate and the chair would fit easily. We’ve never used these plastic pads under a table, but IKEA sells them too.

If you know me, you know I’m crazy about plants! I obviously let Kate down because she asked a lot for her new room! This makes me happy! I thought the top of this corner table would be a perfect place to add some greenery. It serves as a shelf without hanging anything else! Plants are something we don’t lack here! I moved some plants, bought a new one, used some of their old space and planted some of my propagated plants. These add layers and texture and color and make the space feel alive!
Every table needs a lamp! I stuck this little one in the back corner of Homegoods and turn it on every time it sits here day and night. Good lighting makes all the difference!
Looks like everything in Kate’s room is from IKEA, ha! Its black light filters are from IKEA, as are the transparent curtains. I asked Kate if she wanted new curtains and she said she still likes them so I’ll keep them. They add some texture to the room so it’s not too dark. Gold curtain rods can be found here.
She’s had this violin leaf figure in front of her window for over a year now and she loves the space so it’s staying!!

Overall, the space feels brighter, fresher and calmer. Luckily, Kate is in year-round school for 7th grade, so she won’t need this desk much! She will definitely use it for homework and her little projects and it’s where she loves creating diamond paintings! XOLLLLast week when I shared the evolution of our home after three years, I shared this current photo of our studio below. It’s right in front of our house, directly to the right when we open the front door. It has a wall full of windows and is small in size but highly functional.
The biggest burst of activity was mainly a year and a half ago when my workload expanded for the blog and other projects I took on because of the desk we added here and I needed a place to work that not the dining room. Room desk for my laptop and microwave top for paperwork.
This wall is less than 40″ wide and holds everything I need for the day’s work, but I have visions that one day it will be the family computer where Greta and Faye can do homework or… a message instant?
Now, it’s my command center, and I’m full of joy about it, and its recent upgrade (my new swivel chair might be my favorite thing in the house right now) along with a full collaborative tour with Crate & Barrel (there’s my drawer Check out their blog today. Click here for more photos and details.
