The front cover is very misleading. I only downloaded the book because I loved the white dress knitting pattern and couldn’t wait to start the project. Barbie Crochet I got this book from Amazon. The only braid item is on the cover. There are a few dresses etc in the book but they are all sewing patterns. Even then there is no pattern, just pictures of clothes and pictures of pieces sewn together. The book is not worth buying and I will return it.

I think the gathered method is the easiest, but I think small pleats look the best.

There’s no need to mark the fold, but you should mark the back side of the marker with a safety pin.
Assemble the front and back separately. You sew two gathering threads, starting and ending 1/2″ from each end. (I forgot to sew on the gathering thread before the side seam. I guess I was worried the stitches would get mixed up like I did on the blue skirt).
Sew it back on one end as it is short enough to gather. For full gathered skirts, I always leave a long tail at both ends.
Round off the seam edge on the other side and the hem edge. Press the edges up 1/4 inch to fold them over.

I found that the waist was a little long for one of my dolls, so I decided to make sure it fit the doll I was sewing by folding it in half and placing it over her waist. The edges would match and I pinned them in place. Depending on how you want to wear the skirt and what material you use, you will either make it tight or provide ease. If you want to tuck something into your skirt, you need a little convenience. If you’re using a medium to heavy weight fabric, you’ll need a little more ease.
It always amazes me how much length is lost when you sew and fold garments along the seam lines. For thick fabrics, the pleats should be 1/8″ to 1/4″. The overlap should be a negligible 1”. Trim the overlapping edges so the overlap is 1”.
The back of my waistband was 1/4″ longer than the front, so to find the side seam marks, I folded the waistband with 1/4″ sticking out the back. Mark the side seam point at the waist with a safety pin.

Place the right side of the waistband on the wrong side of the skirt. Fasten the side seams.
Pin the back of the skirt marked with safety pins so that the waist is 1/2 inch from the skirt. I lengthened mine by 5/8″ because I was using fairly thick fabric.
I wasn’t worried about the fit as I still had slack when checking the length and this fabric is a knit so there is a bit of slack.
