However, this stress only lasts as long as you know you still have to have it.
Framing Ideas For Canvas Paintings
Oh, it wouldn’t be good to just give the job to someone else. There are artists who are so badly wanted by galleries that they just send in their artwork and the gallery does everything for them. In fact, I have been in this situation for a while.

However, most apartments don’t want to mess with framing any more than the rest of us. That said, I still have to decide my framework, and I think most of you do too.
The reason is only “most” – because you will be one of the lucky ones who work spectacularly on gallery-wrapped canvases. Large 1.5″ deep stretcher holder and canvas ready to hang on the wall without the help of a frame.
Jack White created the photo gallery that Micky Sencarrick (Jack’s wife) worked on, with a unique beautiful edge that follows the white frame. I have known Jack since 2004 (although sadly he passed away in 2016) and Mickey’s canvas paintings have been selling well for a few years now.
Having grown up in the Kalispell area for a while, MT came with many advantages – living in a small cedar house and waking up to the music of birds; daily explorations of the surrounding woods, creeks and Flathead Lake with brother Russ; and connected with his parents’ friends like Joe Abresia, Bud Helbig, Linda Tippetts, Mark Ogle, Sherry Sanders, Bob Cavanaugh, and Frank Davitt.
Framing Your Artwork
However, one of the real highlights is Master Framer Ed Sanders! Not only is he a leader under many of the best western experts, he is also one of the most supportive and supportive friends I have ever had.
Ed did most of my shots during my college and work days. He will exchange artwork for frames – the best exchange rate for struggling students.
Ed’s frames are works of art. I am fortunate to have a relationship with a talented missionary who also loves my skills. He was heartbroken when he died and his loss made me wonder what would happen to my frame without him.
For example, in the 1980s and 1990s, most of my Ed Sanders frames had linen. These lines created a wide frame and made a beautiful image, without the weight that the wood of this width would have, both visually and in scale.
Modern Framing Ideas That You Will Love For Contemporary Artwork
I still have a few of these frames for some old pictures on our walls, but they are a pain to clean (so I usually pass the job). They don’t collect dust like wooden frames do, and if they get stained – wait, you think when someone dropped a plate of spaghetti and it splattered all over one of Ed’s frames (and my picture). wall – I don’t want to talk about it if you don’t mind!
I still see linen lined frames from time to time, but they are not as good as they used to be.
Black Frames started dressing my photos in the early 2000s and now cover at least half of my collection. Their popularity often depends on which part of the country (or world) you live in. California tends to be more lean on gold and the east coast on black – remember this is a big stretch that may not be true when you see it. this blog.
At the many shows I’ve attended over the past few years, I’ve seen more instances of black frames than gold frames. This could be because the black color creates contrast and color in the image.
Modern Sunflower Framed Canvas Prints
I’m not a fan of black and white frames – they look too stark – that hot lips have a good softening and transition.
At the most recent Quest for the West show, I saw some pole pieces (like the one pictured above, except mostly black). The interesting thing is, just 4 months after watching the show, I don’t remember most of the artwork that these shots were showing, but I still remember the shots themselves.
One frame I saw at a show even had the handles sticking out from the top, maybe 5 inches from end to end (wish I had a picture, but no picture posted rules). Although it is very unique and western, for me it is affected by the real image. Then again, in the right house, it will just fit – maybe.
The whitewashing only seems to have started a few years ago (come to think of it, a few years means 10 or 15 in my opinion at the time) – I don’t see much now.

Most of the marketing agents seem to follow the trend of the hot pages, which is where most of my work has been done.
In 2003 I ordered a frame from a company in California that I saw advertised in one of the art magazines. When I made one of my pieces, I noticed that the company logo sticker on the back was doubled. This got me curious so I removed the two decals and found that the bezels were made by Omega and sold by others at an inflated price.
Omega is a wholesale company so you will need a sales tax number (which I just had). Since they only sell sizes, I started painting most of my work that way – it seemed easy.
They have good prices and the company has done a good job promoting their work. A few times I sent the frame back because of a broken corner, they were quickly replaced without any complaints. To save time and money, I usually order from them in bulk a few times a year.
Large Original Lion Oil Painting
When I needed a custom frame I had great experiences with Colorado Framesmith, Hackman Frames and Masterworks Frames.
There is a difference between the individual crafts and the ones I order in bulk. Custom handmade frames have a focus and artwork that varies from frame to frame – enhancing the uniqueness of our artwork as well.
Thinner frames definitely have their appeal – they give priority to makeup and can look clean and elegant. I’m still a wide frame type – always 3-5″ wide (although I’ve used some frames that are 2″ and 7″ wide).
Also, most of my photo frames seem to be muted – not bright. The last thing I want is for a frame to compete with my pictures (I really like fancy frames – the kind you see in a museum – but the collectors of my work like those people who don’t listen).

Even if I’m buying from a store or a store, I expect the frames to last – hopefully at least a lifetime – and consider the quality of rooms that display my work (back then I always saw. chop frame for a $50,000 G Harvey painting about 15 years ago when I lived in Scottsdale).
Ornate frames can be a nice addition to a well-made painting and can work in some shops – not usually in the business that I know very well.
I have had large museums in some of my work. When you add the weight of the board to the weight of the frame (they’re usually a larger frame) with each additional plaster or wood trim, they become cumbersome to maneuver and expensive to ship.
I have noticed the difference between the float in Western and landscape painting shows. I probably won’t be jumping on the bandwagon any time soon because they are difficult to attach ¼” panels to, but I like the idea of showing the whole picture instead of going down to ¼” of each edge.
How To Make A Gallery Wall (selecting, Arranging + Layout Ideas!)
I saw some amazing work in beautifully crafted floats at the Quest for the West show last fall. Christy said she thought the dust would work hard.
Framing is one of the biggest expenses for an artist, especially for gold leaf. One of my 18×24 paintings sold with a 24kt gold leaf frame for $2,000 – more than double the price of the painting.
This is what convinced Christy and I in the early 90’s that it would be easier and cheaper to make our own frames! We order the mold, joiner, clamps, clamps, plating (both mixed and real 24kt, some I
