Design Your Own Invitation Cards

For each of these projects, you’ll need a few basic materials: cardboard; blank white cards and envelopes; cutting tools such as scissors, X-ACTO knife or paper cutter; and paper-friendly glue. Additional materials for special cards are detailed below.

Sometimes making a beautiful card is as simple as… gluing something to the front. Adhere a pretty piece of cardstock to the front of a blank card, add a message, and grab an old birthday candle from your kitchen junk drawer.

Make this adorable design by printing or stamping your message (or messages in this case) onto a blank card. Then cut lengths of colored washi tape and use scissors to make wavy organic shapes. Use these channels to frame your letters and your card is ready to roll.

When it comes to paper crafting, you can’t go wrong with stamping. This card uses simple triangles to make a geometric design that we love. Don’t have a stamp? Without sweat. You can DIY by cutting white rubber. If you have a little extra time, use a box cutter or X-ACTO knife to carve a pattern into your stamp for extra detail.

For this fun look, print or stamp a message on a card and just add a tissue. The tissue paper is transparent, so you can use a glue stick to stick the paper right on top of your letters without fear of obscuring them.

You can trace and cut circles by hand, but using circle strokes is easier (and much faster).

Bring the energy with washi tape letters. Write your message in letters on wax paper and cover them with washi tape. Then flip it over, cut out the letters and add them to your card with other accents.

A giant, glowing exclamation point is just the right amount of extra. Print or stamp your message on the card, cut out glitter paper and glue. It’s that simple.

Three words: mini pompoms. We are looking for this design for all birthday celebrations and not. Use a small dot of tacky glue to attach your mini pom poms and once they are dry, pull the strings with a simple flick of the pen.

Confetti is great, but it’s even better when you make it yourself. This card itself is like a mini mobile party. Use a hole punch to make confetti pieces out of tissue paper, place them in a pretty muslin bag and tape them to your card. So cute!

The perfect card for the little one who loves fairy tales… or the grown-up who appreciates some whimsy. This card may seem like it takes a little longer to make, but we have templates for it. just print them out, trace the pictures on card stock, cut out the pieces and glue them all together.

In the model, the rays of the rainbow are full circles. You can cut them in half before transferring to card stock, or you can fold them in half. Whatever makes sense to you.

Going through my folder, I find that a sketch strikes an idea or reminds me of a pencil that can achieve a similar effect.  I rarely follow the card sketch completely.

My method starts with a paper pad, usually a 6″ x 6″ or 6″ x 8″ pad.

First, I tear all the pages, arranging them on the table.  Since there are usually two of each design with an alternate design on the back, I put these two together.  Each side of the paper together.

This works well for some pillows like the Echo Park.  One side of the paper is busy while the other is filled with a more subtle pattern. 

I am sure NOT to reinvent the wheel.  The pillow designer has gone to great lengths to make sure all the patterns match, so let’s take on the hard work of making cards with their suggestions.
