Bedroom Design Ideas For Young Adults

Bedroom Design Ideas For Young Adults – We recently updated my son’s room from a tween and teenage boy to a college age bedroom. Decorating a teenager’s bedroom can be easy if you keep it simple by just changing the color scheme. I find myself opting for darker colors along with traditional patterns and swapping younger looks for mature, masculine designs.

My son is still in college, only spends summers, vacations and some weekends at home. I wanted a room that would grow with him, something more mature and for a young adult man, but still comfortable and inviting when he came home to a room with small touches from his childhood.

My son’s old room was a bright and energetic sports-themed bedroom, perfect for a tween or teenager. My friend Aaron Christensen, an amazing designer did most of the work and my son loved it! It retains its style for years!

We gave the room a more masculine appearance by using neutral gray with wood accents. I kept the basic layout and main components of the room the same. The shelves, the headboard, the table and the chandelier all remain.

The room received a fresh coat of paint (Sherwin Williams Mindful Grey), as well as a dark charcoal color for the hexagon shelves. These were made by Aaron, but I found some on Etsy for a reasonable price if you don’t want to make them yourself.

I found the bed from an Instagram ad. That’s actually what prompted me to update my son’s bedroom into a young adult bedroom. I love the classic traditional look of checkered fabric, which I always call checkered pillows. My first sofa was made from this fabric, and that was over 30 years ago. It’s still a favorite!

I contacted them and asked if they would like to collaborate on my son’s bedroom remodel and they were more than happy to do so! I selected a few items from the Lawrence Ticking Stripe Collection and was pleased with the quality. This fabric is durable, soft with a vintage feel. It’s a great way to add pattern and style when decorating a bedroom for a young man. Check out all their other collections.

When I saw this wall mural, I knew that the neutral colors and abstract design would meet the needs of this small space.

I immediately contacted Minted to see if they would like to collaborate and they were happy to contribute to this bedroom makeover as well. This particular mural doesn’t fit the size of the wall needed, but we thought that if I hung it horizontally it would be the size needed.

Not only was it very difficult to hang like that, but the walls were peeling after two days. This is not Minted’s fault. I wanted to mention it to help everyone avoid making a costly mistake.

So we ordered a size larger, which made the design a little bigger and we had to leave 6 inches of space on each side, which I thought was OK.
