I recently hosted an event at the model home you see in this post, and it was the best look at modern country interior design I’ve seen in a long time. What makes it so stunning is that it combines the best of country living, pays homage to the Hamptons, injects a bit of classic country style and mixes in touches of colonial design.

As you can see, the results are stunning. Every room feels warm and welcoming. Every place looks rustic yet sophisticated. All rooms have a casual and relaxed feel, yet still have sophistication. What’s most interesting about the event is that even in a down market, some outlying areas are still enjoying growth. Taking the past three years as an example, Geelong has achieved over 25 per cent growth despite a less than favorable market. Ballarat’s growth rate was 19 per cent. More than 20% west of Melbourne. By comparison, areas such as Melbourne’s inner east experienced a growth rate of -8.7%.
Regional Victoria is also getting a boost from this year’s federal budget, with high-speed rail from Geelong to Melbourne now under construction. This is good news considering that commuting to work is a major problem for people moving to remote areas. When my homewares store is closed on Mondays and I want to go into town to buy clothes (like you!), I need to take the Express.
Of course, you get more bang for your buck when you go to a remote area. The stunning modern country interior design you see here won’t fit in your city apartment, let’s face it.
Or, for less than $500,000, you can buy a two-story detached Metricon home on Corinella with four bedrooms, two bathrooms and a two-car garage. Sadly, the quirky furniture and decor doesn’t come with it, but you get the idea?
