Bedroom White And Black Ideas – Black and white is a very popular home decor color scheme, and for good reason. It is classic yet modern at the same time. Plus, you can easily find things to fit into this decorating scheme. Today, I’m excited to share with you our master bedroom makeover and some ideas from my black and white master bedroom!
First, we swapped out our gray bedding for bright white. I blogged about this change here. I recommend switching to white bedding for several reasons – not only is it beautiful, but it brightens up the room considerably and is easy to bleach if needed.

As I mentioned in my previous master bedroom post, the next step in the project was to paint the walls white. I intended to start this project before the end of 2018, but that plan fell through due to the holidays, then my surgery recovery is taking longer than expected. Then, my mental health took a hit in early 2019 [not trying to be mean here, but I feel it’s important to raise awareness!], so I slowed things down a bit. Fortunately, I am now feeling better physically and mentally.

One snowy weekend, Blair and I went to Sutherland in Kansas City to buy some painting supplies. I knew we were going to have snow for a while, so it was the perfect time to start a home project.
We filled the cart with all the necessary painting supplies: paint [obviously], brushes, rollers, drop cloths, painter’s tape, etc. Pro tip: Use a high quality brush and roller for painting. The finer your brushes, the shorter the brush strokes. A low quality roller can leave lint behind, which obviously no one wants on their walls. It’s worth the extra money to get quality supplies so you’re satisfied with the end result.
This is an edited shot of our “before” paint, just to give you an idea. You can see more photos in this post. We also had a dark accent wall behind the bed, which you can see a few photos above.
Here, Colton helps after a few coats of white paint. We did 3 coats of paint, which I think goes from dark to light – white in particular. For reference, the paint we chose is Valspar Medallion Paint and Primer in Egg Finish. We color-matched it to Sherwin-Williams SW7004 “Snowbound” because that’s the white we used in our trim. Snowbound is a nice cool white, and I highly recommend it for any room.

You can see in this photo that we haven’t painted the ceiling yet, so it’s still the same color as the “front” walls. I was torn on painting the ceiling, as I thought the dark would provide a nice contrast to the room. After living with it for a while, I think we’ll go ahead and paint it – I haven’t gotten around to it yet.
I love the way black and white looks in our master bedroom. Obviously, I’m not done decorating the walls yet, but… one step at a time. I wait to find pieces that I really love, like the pieces above our bed [which are surprisingly inexpensive!].
White makes our black and white master bedroom so bright! I also want to get a large black and white rug to put under the bed and bench. For now, this sheepskin rug provides a bit of rug contrast.
Remember how I mentioned that I always have my little helpers with me? Hahaha! Blair didn’t understand why I was taking pictures of the room instead of her. She was trying to jump into every shot… but she’s so gorgeous I can’t tell.

However, these photos of me on my nightstand are two of my favorite photos I’ve ever taken of my little ones. They’re always the cutest when they’re sleeping, right?
A touch of green helps brighten up a black and white master bedroom and keeps it from feeling too stark. Because I’m terrible at plants, my greens are all wrong.
