We invite you to share your stories and small home photos with us, so that together we can inspire others’ minimalist dream lives and fuel our passion even more. It’s been a while since I’ve shared anything about my house. So I thought it was time to share some interior ideas for small houses. I live in about 1500 square meters, but it seems much bigger.
If you are one of the 5 people who read my blog regularly (Hi Mom!), you may remember the first time I shared that I bought a house or the 6 month update after I painted EVERYTHING.
For about 7 seconds I thought I was going to join Young House Love and become a full-time home blogger, but it actually costs a lot of money to do a home project all the time. So instead, I’ve been making small improvements over the past few years, and even though I’m not an interior designer, I can honestly say that sometimes when I see my house, I’m like, wow, I did that. I feel like we’ve really “lived” in this space and have some great tips for tiny home owners.

I don’t like the transition from this room to my kitchen/dining room, but you can see that a color of paint helps make the transition smoother. I actually shared some more details of this room in my 6 month re-cap and this room hasn’t changed much.
I just realized that I have never shared my kitchen on my blog. Last spring I did a labor of love and painted my brown high gloss cabinets white. I also replaced all appliances with stainless steel. It was definitely not a complete renovation, but it made such a 👏 👏 difference!
I wouldn’t recommend it to everyone depending on the shape of the cabinet, placement, etc. However, I removed some cabinet doors to “open up the room” and it turned out great in my opinion. The look isn’t nearly as pretty as open shelving, but small touches can go a long way in making small spaces feel more open.
9 Small House Exteriors We Love
I actually had really little fridge space. There were so few stainless steel refrigerators available in this size category. And it barely fit, but we squeezed it and the fridge was the end. Seriously, go back and check out my first home blog post to see the difference in the kitchen. it is amazing.
I am very grateful for this space. This was a sunroom at one point that the previous owners finished and I’m so glad they did because it adds a MUCH needed touch of coziness. I’m really looking to get an L couch at some point, but we’ll make do with what we have.
To help with spacing, I have smaller pieces of furniture that help open up the space, but might not work if you live with a really big one. As always, clearing and leaving passages also helps to open up the room.
Starting with the primary bedroom. I’ve detailed this room before, but it honestly looks very different now. When I changed the bed linen, added the carpet and a small seat at the end of the bed. Check out the blog I linked for all the details.
4 Interior Ideas For House In Modern Forest Style
This is my youngest child’s room, which I love, but is still a bit of a mess. I walk a fine line between trying to let him be creative and throwing out all his junk. Both of my boys shared a room when we first moved in and I honestly loved their rooms. We were very careful to use their space when there were two beds in the room, but now there is more space and a lot more “stuff” has moved in.
But one interior tip to make the rooms feel bigger is to leave the room open or empty. So where the rug is without furniture, it keeps the room feeling full.
You can see all the details about this tween boys room here. This room has a slightly sloping ceiling and to my disappointment we had to make poor use of the room space where the bed protrudes in the middle. But the low ceiling made it the most functional use of the space, so while it’s not super space efficient, it’s still really cute. A wicker box helps to hide the necessary things and leaves room to walk around the bed, which does not make the room too heavy.
