Scrapbook Supply Companies was founded in 2006 in the basement of our home in Illinois. In 2017, we moved to Missouri to expand our business and our entire family.

Today, we are still a family-owned business with three warehouses and an on-site commercial printing shop, allowing us to create custom designs for almost any occasion.

I’m making a folio album for a birthday gift, and there was only one collection kit with this design, but it is now discontinued. I’m so glad to find a place where you can still buy different papers.

I can’t wait to use it in the book for my Shih Tzu, Chyna. I make a book for him every year. She is 3 years old. So I’m working on his fourth book. In addition to the CX-3, CX-5, MX-5, 2 and 3, we have a whole lineup of retro Cosmo Sports, R360 coupe, Luce and Familia and papercraft versions of the 3 (released in 2019).

Paper craft cars have been enjoyed around the world since their introduction eight years ago. But do you know how they are manufactured?

Designers and external professional designers collaborated to develop a unique model.

The photo at the top of the page is of designer Eiji Miyamoto of Mizuma Kobo Co., Ltd.*. He studied sculpture in college and is a professional modeler.

The development process for paper crafts is the same as for real cars: planning, development, production and delivery to customers.

The project starts with ideas like “Let’s make a paper craft version of a new model that will be released soon” or “Let’s make a special paper craft to celebrate the 100th anniversary.” At the core of this project The idea is that we want more and more kids to love cars and enjoy making things through paper crafts.

The next phase of the plan is development. Mr. Miyamoto of Mizuma Kobo Co., Ltd. creates the first draft, which is checked by Mr. Hatakeyama. Surprisingly, Mr. Miyamoto’s first draft was made from clay!

Mr. Miyamoto studied sculpture at university, so he values the ability to faithfully reproduce the shape of a real car and create three-dimensional pieces. If he can’t find specific details in a catalog or website, Miyamoto takes to the streets to photograph the actual subject. He says that he started designing by trusting his senses.

After several rounds of communication and final planning that both parties were satisfied with, we finally entered the production phase. There, data and printed materials are created for customers and fans.

To achieve this goal, they first ensure that the design is easy and safe to manufacture. Plus, since the car body is left as a blank canvas, kids can enjoy painting it to their liking and creating the car they want to drive in the future. Both designers hope that this paper craft will help more kids fall in love with cars. (By the way, Mr. Hatakeyama has liked drawing monsters since he was a child, and he also drew cars in the latter half of elementary school.)

Our goal is to create paper crafts that express the beauty of Kodo designs and the vitality expressed through curves, and satisfy not only children but fans of different age groups. For example, to achieve the smooth curve of the three back parts, designers repeatedly tested and redesigned how the paper could be folded to achieve a beautiful effect. It is said that the appearance of a single model can vary greatly depending on how the aircraft is handled. Feedback was also sought from the chief designer of the actual vehicle to improve the paper version.

Third, we want everyone to get immersed in making things, from kids to adults who make cars using paper crafts.

We want users to have a fun and immersive experience. Papercraft has great potential to foster creativity through the process of creating three-dimensional objects from a single piece of paper. For example, put yourself in the shoes of a clay modeler and try to build a small car, thinking, “A paper car becomes rigid when the roof and body are glued together, so I How can I make the curved surface the most beautiful?” ‘Put paper in the cylinder?’ ,

The two designers spoke with smiles, revealing their inner sense of challenge and tireless effort. I can tell that they put their whole heart and soul into making the paper crafts. We will continue to provide this activity to children around the world so they can experience the joy and sense of accomplishment in making things.

Mr. Miyamoto: If you make grooves with a dry ballpoint pen at the place where the paper is folded, the paper will fold better. We recommend printing your design on paper that is slightly thicker and stiffer than regular copy paper.

Hatakeyama: If you apply too much glue, the curve will lose its shape, so use a small amount and press it down with your fingers after it dries. Curves look best when they are gently shaped by hand.
