New Year’s Eve, New Room Update Challenge takes place every January where a group of content creators are “challenged” to update a space in our home over the course of the month. It’s directly to the right as you enter the front door, so it deserves a little TLC as it’s a focal point outside the entrance.

How To Decorate A Niche In The Wall So It Doesn’t Look Dated

The staircase was a blank slate, so all I had to do was come up with ideas to fill both niches and replace the light fixture and it could have been that simple!

We had the staircase painted when we did the other main areas when we first moved into the house in the summer of 2021. The color is SW Gossamer Veil.

The railing was plain, the carpet old and tattered, the niches empty, and the lamp left much to be desired. In fact, it was too small for the space.
