Drawing New Ideas

Drawing New Ideas – When I went on vacation to Hvar in September, I took some drawing materials with me, just a small sketchbook and my Art Pen. I took some photos and I don’t know where they will take me:

I’m thinking of creating a new booklet/magazine containing some of these photographs and things to draw. As I have been inspired by the myths of goddesses in the past, I want to travel to the dreamscape of mythical figures: nymphs, forest women, mystical creatures. I am interested in ancient Greek mystery cults, such as Ovid’s Metamorphoses and the Eleusinian Mysteries. I also want to go back to studying folk tales and stories, maybe create my own.

Drawing New Ideas

I love the work of artist Flora McLachlan, her paintings, collages and recent paintings. Some of his works are reminiscent of one of my favorite artists, Samuel Palmer, often with crescent-shaped or moonlit shadows. I love the darkness, the dreamlike quality and the fragility of the style. Many things about his work cloud the night.

In his last paintings I saw his landscape; I love his paintings: he becomes the image of his paintings, or rather, the paintings reflect him; His native Wales is part of the beautiful landscape. To use the words:

“From the moment the plant came to my head, I felt at home on this train, in this unpleasant place, on this road, on this edge. Among its branches are striped beetles and jeweled insects, sharp shadows and pungent green smells. Now it only reaches up to my waist in this green, wild and fiery, half-human mermaid; It is a transformation, a shapeshifting and a wild fantasy. I can enter this magical world whenever I want, surround myself with fire and draw strength from the dew every morning. “

Maybe my figures on the landscape are my version of myself, I don’t know. What I do is lose myself in the leafy green of my home through my movement, feeling one with it. I gestured and negotiated with the birds. Here is a short video I wrote in April:

I wondered how I could see myself in the landscape. Where do I feel most at home? What landscape am I in? In the forest? Not within the fortified walls of this city. Or not? As I use my senses to connect with nature, I resist walls and hallways, lines and traffic.

Back to the masterpieces. If you would like to see Flora MacLachlan’s work, she has some photographs and/or photographs in the Mythical Landscapes exhibition at Twenty Twenty Gallery or visit her website. I also watched some very interesting Youtube videos where he talks about his process, including his video.

Some of my drawings since returning from vacation include three pen and ink drawings, Night Wigil, Harvest Goddess, and If You’re Lost. I might add one of them to my new nature/myth book, but in the meantime, I’ve sent it to Obsidian Art for their Once Upon a Time exhibition:

The god of the harvest is the pen and ink. Early summer, summer through fall.

May everything you do be fluid like a river, not forced and restricted, as is the case with children. “
