Design Ideas For Corner Bookshelf

Design Ideas For Corner Bookshelf – I hope everyone is still safe and sound. Or as healthy as can be expected given the current situation. Eric is back to a regular shift, so we are slowly adjusting to our ‘new’ schedule again. Friends and family have been absent and we are trying to catch up on some projects around the house while we work on the girls’ common room as part of the spring 2020 one room challenge.

When the weather finally turns nice Eric is itching for our room, but we still have several DIY projects to wrap up in the girls’ room.

We’re happy with how it turned out, especially since it was a completely last-minute addition to this design in a design challenge.

These Easy Bookshelf Design Ideas Will Transform Your Space

As I mentioned in Week One’s One Bedroom Challenge post, the biggest planning challenge we face when it comes to our daughters’ shared bedroom is limited wall space. Only two walls are used, each of which is occupied by twin beds.

Before we had a small bookcase that sat next to one of the bookshelves. However, since our girls love to write and draw, I want to make sure that they are included as part of the decor in their room.

We could move one of the wall mounted bookcases and the desk to other places in the room, but since our oldest is now 6 and starting to read, I wanted to install a special desk for the growing chapter of books. force

So one night he was sitting in his room, deliberating what to do with his books, when I noticed a corner near the door of his room. It happened to be the perfect size to allow for a narrow bookcase. I did a quick search at IKEA to see if there was a bookcase that would fit in the space and I found a narrower bookcase. But since this corner is visible in every inch of the room – in the entrance hall – I wanted a more open plan than a traditional cabinet with closed posts.

This is the corner. I couldn’t find a “before” photo because, again, I didn’t give the site any consideration. But look how practical it is!

It turned out pretty easy to build and was assembled in a day. The painting took a little longer because the cabinet was already compact and we decided to paint it, which meant using a lot of blue tape to achieve the goal we decided on. The two tone white and natural wood finish match the new girls heads we built in week 2. Both the headboard and the desk give off a nice modern vibe.

So, if you want to add some extra book storage to your home and have a corner or two, this tutorial is for you! The librarian gave us a total of $60. Not bad considering real wood, right? I think the narrow billy bookcase I got at IKEA was $50 plus shipping, so I’m happy! Best of all, girls will love having a small open shelf to display their treasures next to their books.

Our bookcase is 73″ high x 15″ wide x8″. In this tutorial I have specified the measurements that we used to build our bookcase. If you need to change the dimensions of your particular space, feel free to adjust the dimensions accordingly.

Built-in Corner Bookshelf With Open Corner

Cut (2) 1″ x 8″ x 8′ boards @ 73″ inches. These will be the sides (A) and back (B). Next, cut (6) 1″ x 8″ x 8′ boards @ 14″ inches. These will be the shelves.

Using a triangle, mark 5.5 inches from the bottom of the back (B) and then measure and mark 0.75 inches up. Here you are simply creating a map that will help you invest.

Do as we say, not as we do! Here you can see that we didn’t do the detailed method listed above, and we found some minor issues. So, keep yourself safe and clean!

We finished our 11.5 oz. So, you will still measure an additional 11.5 inches from the previous line using Back (B). Look at the shelf next to the list and repeat until all (6) lists have been placed. When you’re done, you should have 5.5 inches of space left, which matches the space below.

Once everything is lined up and all of your measurements are correct, place Side (A) next to Back (B), make straight lines, then line exactly from Back (B) to Side (A). ).

Then take the side (A) and stop the side. Use clips to hold it in place. Take one of your 14-inch scraps and add glue to one of the short ends. Then within the features previously cooked. Use the square speed to make both parts square and then attach. We used a nail gun using 1.25 inch nails.

Once dry, slide side (A) into place (Side A). We chose to place it 4.5 inches from the side (a) and back (b).

Now that you know where you want to put the back (B), go glue the back that you stick to the side (A). Place the back (B) on the racks, making sure it is positioned on the lines you drew earlier. With both in place, stand square. Then attach using brad nails. Let it dry for an hour or two.

Once the frame is built, turn it to the bottom position and you can attach the remaining (4) brackets.

After all the brackets are attached, you can add the 5.5 inch legs to the bottom. In addition to wood glue, we wanted to use pocket screws to join the base of the lower shelf. We brought him back to where he was sitting.

We wanted to paint the guards white and leave the natural wood frame to fit the new heads we made in week 2.

Once that’s done, it’s time to mount the bookshelf to the wall. Since we don’t want to remove the base plate, there is some space on both the back (B) and the side (A).

Build & Organize A Corner Shelving System

We wanted to use (2) 1 x 6 inch pieces that were added to the top and bottom of the back (B) because the bare back (B) is visible. We have already made the holes and used glue to attach the edges.

Now it’s time to attach the bookshelf to your walls. Hopefully, you can hit a few tracks. If not, be sure to use drywall anchors for a firm attachment. Drill the holes first and then in the walls.

I did everything! It’s a bit tedious to build, so make sure you’re working without obstacles, but overall it’s a very easy and quick DIY project. And, honestly, we’re pretty happy with the extra storage space we were able to squeeze into a previously unused corner for just $60.

I can’t wait to see what books and treasures our little girl chooses to display in the years to come. I assure you, but I doubt that this world will ever be clean again! 😉

Tips For Styling A Bookcase

Next week we’ll be unpacking the closet and installing some built-in storage. And he said: Goodbye to the ugly builder of the steps of the wire rack in the process! alas! (Don’t worry, we didn’t throw it away. It was simply moved to our house for extra storage).

When my husband and I moved into our house two years ago, we weren’t sure how we were going to fill the living room, but we definitely needed storage for our small collection of books.

After spending some time in this empty room, I decided to build a perfect space solution suitable for the system, which eventually extends into the work space. We wanted it to be suitable, good looking, and not too expensive.
