These images can define things like materials, atmosphere, lighting and color. Use the built-in image library, draw from your own bookmarks, or save visual inspiration from anywhere on the web with S’s Web Clipper.

Perhaps the most exciting thing for your customer is knowing what he or she will actually receive. Now that this is clearly detailed, there is no longer any question ‘where is the xyz that I thought was recorded?’. The customer knows what will be delivered and you can rest easy knowing that the project is limited to the details you have included.
This step is so basic and serious that the whole project can literally collapse on you if you don’t do it right. Make your project prices completely clear to your customer from the start with the built-in pricing table.
Very often between the initial proposal and the statement of work there can be much more detailed discussions about what is included. Now is the time to set the final price, taking these things into account.
Your customer is sold and you’d like to strike while the iron is hot and get the signature right away. With better proposals, your customer only needs to type his or her name to accept and the project is fully legally binding and ready to use.

A few weeks ago I shared a full design documentation in Sketchup and Layout (which you can see here) and it is currently one of the best performing posts on my blog, so I think you might want to see more sample documents!
The design concept is normally the first (or very early) set of documentation I would provide to a client.
With the project below, I first went through a space planning phase of the project – to get my clients to agree on the actual layout/floor plan they would like (before spending time working in 3D).

The next step before any documentation can be created is to design the house or project in Sketchup itself.
And below is a snapshot of what the sketchup file looked like for the project I share in the design concept below.
In this particular project I worked out the project in quite a lot of detail in 3D, which I don’t always do during the design concept phase because it is very time consuming.
It really depends on how far we have gotten in this phase in deciding whether I just build block (simple) joinery/cabinets for now, or whether I build a more detailed version of the cabinets at this stage. Since I had decisive clients with this project, I went ahead and did a good part of the actual cabinet design, as you will see below and in the design concept itself.

Often this is the level of detail I would normally do as part of the documentation phase of my projects – just to be clear 🙂
