You may have noticed that the word “new” was in quotation marks. The building is about 12 years old, but the interior is unfinished. This included things like adding signs, painting and cutting windows. All the windows in the house looked like this picture with no holes, shutters, or casings, just a 2×4 that held the window open.

Knowing that finishing all the windows would be a big job, the husband started working as soon as he entered the house.

During construction, the windows were installed and attached to the frame, the ugly 2×4’s you see in the pictures. The exterior of the building and windows are completely finished, they are sealed and weatherproof, and small insects are kept from entering. On the other hand, the work of interior decoration is not finished, this step is only decorative.
The inner cover covers the frame and any visible spray bubbles. Spray foam, if you’re wondering, seal the area around the windows to keep cold air out. Most of our foam had turned into cuts, so it had to be cut with a utility knife first.
How To Choose Interior Trim & Moulding
Interior window frames are the pieces around the window that cover the 2×4 frame. Depending on the type of window, it may or may not have a ledge that the clothes fit into.
As I mentioned earlier, our windows measured ⅝ thick, so we had to use the corners that fit inside the window. Turns out this was harder to find than we expected! In the end, we decided to use ⅝” thick sheets of plywood to cut to the width needed for each window.
If your windows don’t have sills, you can use any thickness, but I recommend that ¾” thickness is probably best.
Instead, add a floor covering and add slats to the floor to help with dusting and leveling. In addition to the level, we use a precision angle measurer so that the corners are large.

Do the same with the side grooves and add the last stick. Double measure all areas to make sure the height is correct.
When the studs are in place and flat, use a nail gun and nail the pieces together. We nailed the nails together at the corners.
Now that the shelves are in place, determine the height you need for the top and bottom. The edges of the jambs are covered with trim. Try to go from the inner corner to the inner corner, remember that it should be a little “open”. Exposure refers to the quantity that is on the side of the road, not directly on the side of the road. We like ⅛”, so we increased the trim length.
Place the window over the window opening, measuring ⅛” from both sides and the height above the opening. Place a level under the frame to make sure the guides are straight before nailing to the wall.
Installing Interior Window Trim
Using wood glue, attach the cutout to the wall and nail it.
Repeat this process for the right sides of the window, placing the mitered edges at the top and bottom.
After you have installed the trim around the window, take wood filler and fill the holes and nail gaps in the miter corner. Allow the wood filler to dry completely and then use a fine putty to smooth out the filled holes.
Wipe off the dirt and sand filler with a clean cloth and paint or polish to finish the job.
