Tv Corner Design Ideas – Ok guys…keeping it real here (I always do) but this DIY comes with a disclaimer and disclaimer…it was very difficult and NOT a beginner project. Here’s the story…we had a really weird, boring corner in our great room that was the only place we could put our TV. Our current TV was a long rectangle and everyone knows that a rectangle cannot fit into a triangle. It looked awkward and was very difficult to style and keep functional. I had a great idea “Hey, let’s build a built-in corner unit. If you want to know the rest of the story, keep reading…

Let me start by saying that we are not professional carpenters. So we went into this project a little blind, but with a lot of determination.

Second, let’s take a look at some old “before photos” pictures, and sorry, the photos aren’t the best quality, but they give you an idea… (and my style has changed a lot!)

It’s not a perfect angle, nor are the walls and floor perfectly flat or straight. We had to figure out what angle we wanted to position the TV and how high we wanted it. Then we had to determine the width based on the base of the TV. Since the wall is tilted back, there should be enough space not only for the TV, but also for its legs.

We traced the studs and then cut 1″ x 2″ boards to serve as supports for the shelves and to measure the size of the unit. We attached these boards to studs to ensure stability.

Next, the MDF panels to serve as the shelves were cut to size using the backing panels as guides. We used MDF panels to make sure they are strong and durable. We measured the distance between the backing boards end to end to determine our size and shape.

Cut the beadboard backing for open or exposed areas. Then add a 1/4″ turn to cut the bottom.

Add a cutout to the top half of the device. We added a crown shape to the top and then finished the side with a character medallion.

Add some slats to act as false side doors. We were originally going to use MDF, but due to its thickness and weight, we felt it was too heavy and would create more unnecessary voids. So we used a thin board. We also added a header to the top to support the barn door hardware and prevent gaps in the base. We sell consoles, stereos, DVD players, etc.

Sliding hardware was added to the headboard and the center door was hung after being cut to match the sides.

We need to paint or paint. At first I planned to paint. Then we looked at it and thought the stain would give it a cute and pretty rustic look. However, the problem was that the MDF did not stain well and the stain color did not look uniform with different woods. So I went back to the original drawing idea and I love how it turned out. (we caulked and sanded the holes before painting)

When And How To Place Your Tv In The Corner Of A Room

Although this project was difficult to complete, it was worth it. I love the clean, fresh look it gives a room, and it’s a beautiful focal point rather than an eye opener. Can you believe the difference furniture makes in a room?

I’m really happy with how it turned out. I rearranged the furniture after Christmas and my husband wanted the leather armchair back in the room. I love how it adds a different texture and warmth to the room along with the new bamboo shutters….
