Design Ideas For Farmhouse – Hello again friends! It’s hard to believe that summer is already over. In fact, our city’s children went back to school today! But it’s officially another month of summer, so I’m trying not to tip my hat yet. Today I thought I’d share some farmhouse table decor ideas for your entry console. Neutral textures such as wood, fabric, canvas, stripes, books and greenery are perfect for the summer months.
I started dreaming about our doors when we were still building a house last year. We have an open floor plan, but I still wanted the entrance to be defined and welcoming. I’ve been experimenting with style for months and I always end up messing something up. I love this feeling of warm and summer weather!

The centerpiece is this beautiful table that a friend made for us, based on the design of Ana White X’s rustic console table. I asked him to remove the middle shelf and reposition the faucets below. I really like this effect and it’s so special that someone created something like this from a friend!

When I first decorated the table, I placed decorative accents all over the tabletop without much thought. Although everything was nice, it ended up falling apart and a mess! After a while, I realized that making smaller vignettes gives a nicer look. In this corner I have a small lamp from Walmart, a monogrammed metal letter, and my DIY bookshelves.
On the other side of the table, I placed an air tray from the Hobby Lobby Spring Store. Then some blue apothecary glass bottles and a large gray IKEA vase with a variety of greenery and white flowers. I love contrasting textures: wood, metal, glass and flowers.
I warmed up the lower console shelf with more neutral textures, like this metal basket and cream blanket from Target and a gold shoe rack from West Elm that I’ve had for years. The metal basket was actually a birthday gift for my husband; this may seem like a strange gift, but I really wanted it 😉
In turn, I made a fabric pillowcase and a faux leather pillow (also from Target). Then some metal candlesticks that I painted with chalk paint and finally, yes, more books. I studied English and I love this quote by Jorge Luis Borges:

For the table centerpiece, I separated two watercolor botanical prints with a felt board. Bug and I like to swap quotes every few weeks!
The final piece on our front door is this wooden calligraphy sign that I painted. I used pine wood from Home Depot (they will cut it for you), covered it with fabric, painted it with chalk paint, and then hand-painted the Bible verse in pencil. Calligraphy is a hobby that I have been doing for about a year and a half! I love the way it combines my love of creation and words.
This is what our country summer decor looks like. I’m already dreaming about autumn decorations, but I’ll hold off for now! What are your favorite beach decor items? Thank you so much for coming today, guys. Of all the available interior styles, country decor is one of the most trend-resistant and popular. A recent study found that a look characterized by country decor and great comfort is one of the most popular decorating styles in the United States. At its best, farmhouse decor looks light and simple. At its worst, with lots of shabby wooden furniture, sliding storm doors and shutters, it’s a cliche style that really needs to be put out to pasture.
So what is the way to fix this? “It is important to combine different design elements,” emphasizes Heidi Caillier, a designer known for cleverly combining eras, prints and textures. “You can’t use pieces that are going to look rustic – use some pieces that have a bit of patina with pieces that feel a little nicer.” Caillier, who recently designed a stunning 1790s home in Bedford, New York, suggests adding unexpected details such as whimsical fabrics, dramatic lighting or abstract art to bring out a touch of modernity.
Ultimate Guide To Modern Farmhouse Decor & Decorating Ideas
Even if you’re not blessed with a home that dates back to George Washington – or if you can’t tell the difference between a John Deere and a John Derian in a police lineup – there are still ways to enjoy your indoor farm, so Caillier suggests that when renovating, you should create a “base architectural” using details such as beams, panels, moldings and structure. “That first floor is really important and helps tell the full story when we get to the armory,” he says. “I try to look at history more as a guide – real old houses and buildings, not new versions of them.”
In that spirit, we’ve searched our archives for some of the most beautiful examples of modern farmhouse decor. Before you know it, you’ll take the word “barn-raised” as a compliment.
When George Kolasa and his husband, Justin Tarquinio, purchased this historic farmhouse in East Hampton, New York, they became both managers and owners. Working with ELLE DECOR A-List designer Alfredo Paredes, they added layers of art to keep the rooms from looking countryside. One of the framed pieces above the fireplace has an additional meaning: the original title deed to the house. “It was given to me by the sister of one of my family members,” explains Kolasa. “It’s a very, very special memory.”
It didn’t start as a farmhouse (it was a former fishing cave), designer David Cafiero added many nice touches. We especially love the duck egg painted ceiling and the gorgeous floral wallpaper in this bathroom.

Even if you don’t have an old house, recreate the history of your neighborhood. We love this sweet (and cheap!) decorative cross, courtesy of Sharone Einhorn. Here she opened her entry with Long Island nautical charts. Don’t sleep on this design idea – although Skeeter the dog will be accepted.
Alyse Archer-Coité purchased a 1790s Georgian gem in upstate New York and brought her artistic flair to the tiled floors and period fireplaces. Here, in the kitchen, she painted one fireplace blue and displayed her collection of antique tableware by Gio Ponti, Dudley Waltzer and others.
If you are lucky enough to live in a home with period details, embrace them. ELLE DECOR A-list firm Hendricks Churchill restored this storied Greek Revival in Connecticut and turned it into history. Lindsey Adelman’s sparkles and abstract art (not to mention a stray dinosaur toy) keep the map from cluttering up.
Nothing makes a country house as cozy as a cottage. And luckily, Toast CEO Suzie de Rohan Willner owns the company that produces the most interesting ones. Here on her farm in Oxfordshire, UK, she dropped one of the harvest beauties at the foot of the living room.

For designer Heidi Caillier, creating a perfectly modern farmhouse style is a matter of complexity – especially when it comes to pattern. Here, in a 1790s house in Bedford, New York, she indulged in the cozy atmosphere of this cozy attic bedroom, decorated with a variety of floral fabrics. Their subdued colors keep the look from reaching maximum mesh.
Gallery walls add visual interest to any space, and it’s fair to say that the one at Sheila Bridges’ Hudson Valley Shelter is a master class in getting it right. Here, she covered the robin’s egg blue walls with classic Hudson River School paintings. The writing table captures the blue of the walls, sky and rivers in each painting.
A country-style table anchors the dining room in the home of English decorator Rita Konig, and the theme continues with rustic lanterns, antique chairs and embroidered curtains. But it’s the gorgeous color of the artichoke that gives its appearance just the right note of spice.
Twin Cities designer Anne McDonald wanted this lake house to have a feminine, Scandinavian feel. Here, in the master bedroom, she painted the walls and ceiling a soft pink (Farrow & Ball’s fixative plaster) and covered the headboard in a sweet floral Décors Barbares decor.
