Ufm Student Competition On Urban Design 2023
We are pleased to be in our third year of partnership with International Real Leather. Stay different. Student design competition 2023, searching for the best new designers from around the world and for those who want to promote slow style and a more sustainable fashion future.
Are you afraid of unbearable fashion and unsustainable materials? According to Greenpeace, synthetic fabrics – made from petrochemical products from the oil industry – now make up 60% of our clothing. Not only do these garments take hundreds of years to biodegrade, they are often cheap and poorly made. As a result, nearly a billion pieces of clothing are thrown away each year, each worn only five times.
Meanwhile, leather, a natural by-product of the dairy and meat industries and our growing demand for food – from hamburgers to milkshakes – can be used to make items that last a lifetime and biodegrade quickly after disposal. Leather is the perfect solution to one of fashion’s biggest problems, but every year almost half of the world’s cattle hides are simply thrown away.
To encourage thinking about the future of our planet and the fight against this waste, our judges invite you to create an original, innovative and visually stunning design in one of three categories of clothing, accessories or footwear made from genuine cowhide. They would also like to see how participants approach creating garments that will not only last, but will be loved for a lifetime.
