Living Room Sectional Decorating Ideas – Wondering how to decorate a bedroom with sectionals? Get 5 tips for creating a bright, open feel in your living space.

I recently shared the makeup of our family home, for which the article generously provided a huge sectional and a beautiful round leather ottoman. See here for all the details on furniture selection and placement. Today I want to talk about my second goal for this space: a light, bright, open feeling (which can be difficult with large furniture!)… in short, how to decorate a bedroom with sectionals.

Big furniture can sometimes make a room feel too heavy, but I knew I wanted the space to feel light and airy, so that (besides making our seating bigger) was the main goal. There are five basic ways I always use to make a space feel brighter and more open:

Even with young children, you’ll find lighter colors that enhance the lightness and open feel of living spaces.

Our walls are kept gray with Sherwin Williams throughout our entire floor (you can see our paint colors for this house here). It’s a beautiful chameleon light gray that looks warm or cool depending on the light – perfect for this space. All seams are Sherwin Williams Extra White.

I loved the blue/gray rug we had here, but it was too dark for the new look, so I replaced it with the rug in our front room…and I think it was right. A lighter, warmer neutral tone perfectly complements the cool, more modern look of a cube modular sofa with a slightly traditional pattern (find out more about this option in Part 1 of this home). Despite the lighter colors, I know how forgiving this model is to dirt, spills, and stains that may or may not be a problem on a quad. πŸ˜‰

A few lighter throws and inexpensive accent pillows and a lighter (but still kid-friendly) color scheme complete the look.

In our family makeup, I added one of the two leafy fig trees (so the baby doesn’t eat dirt in the big basket πŸ˜‰) …

I have two fake leaf fig trees that I bought four years ago at a clearance sale and they have (miraculously) survived our family, but if you’re worried about keeping one alive, I also have some really cool fake leaf figs, and my favorites are here in different sizes and Price range includes:

An interesting element of this room was the hanging plant. I’m a big fan of balance in symmetry, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to put it into practice: balancing a puzzle-leaf fig on one end of the section with a hanging vine on the other.

It’s a lively plant, so I had to come up with some creative plans to make sure it didn’t end up in our new bed. I originally had a small concrete hanging planter, but I may or may not have accidentally left it on the counter while the hanging vine was hanging like a charm… and the baby may have pulled it off the counter. It’s broken. (And yes, luckily it was good!). In the end, I decided on a vintage silver bowl (actually given to my grandmother decades ago – it’s nice when something is history, right?). I put the ceramic plant – still in the nursery pot – in a silver bowl and hung it with this macro hanger.

I also added some greenery to my videos above the TV. Anything that requires a real ladder to the water is better in my opinion. πŸ˜‰

I’m a neutral girl at heart and I love the interest added through texture rather than color. But no matter what your natural inclinations are, maintaining some sort of individual look can help offset huge portion sizes. Tones like these are comforting, adding a bit of depth to the large sofa, while the texture still offers variety.

I added texture with a trunk side table (a tree trunk is a great DIY!) and a neutral rug. Of course, the natural fiber rug on our back door also contributes to these layers.

The linen look of the sofa, the leather of the ottoman and the back of the chair also contribute to the room’s rich texture. Not to mention balancing the fireplace’s antique brickwork with chipped white molding (see all the information on our fireplace range here).

Whether it’s big or small, using just 1-2 pieces of art on your walls can make a space feel more cluttered and open.

Wall space is very limited here, but I didn’t want the hanging plant to be alone. My old paper frame (I think it was originally from Hobby Lobby?) – another natural wood frame – and an engineered print of one of my photos from our time in Paris have perfect contrast and memory. . (PS Engineered prints are my super secret trick for totally cheap wall art.

I topped it off with a cheap picture lamp I ordered from Amazon because we needed a lamp in that corner and there was no place for a lamp behind the chair. To be honest, it’s a little light, and the brass is more yellow than I expected, but for $25 it’s a great place for a corner and functionally light until you find a good one.

The bedroom is the icing on the cake, but too many accents can clutter the space. Keep it light and simple!

The more children I have, the more I want. Say, I’m not alone! You’ll find that the coffee and side tables are empty (hello, 10-month-old baby), and the stove is bare. I put some of my favorite candles on the mantel (they’ve earned a permanent spot there) and some of my favorite accessories on the cabinets above the TV.

But as you can see, I tried to leave as much white space as possible, and divided the accents into three main categories, reflecting the blue-grey saf and greenery with touches of natural brown, white and blue/green glass. at home In case you’re wondering, here’s oneΒ

Bedroom, we have some toys in here: games in the cupboard by the fireplace and baby toys in the basket on the floor. If I get tired of looking at them, I can easily throw them in the basket and cover them with an extra Turkish towel.
