In today’s episode of Branding Inspiration, we look at the top 10 inspirational character designs that I personally love and what makes a good character design, from a child character to a game character. Please note that these are my personal preferences (on the principles of character personality) and I will try to update the page as I see better. Understanding the concept of a character along with facial expression leads to creating an amazing character from a great character idea.
Cool Character Design Ideas
I love the design style and concept of this chubby superhero set. Although I’m not sure if this is politically correct in that obesity can be seen as glorified and encouraged among children. But maybe it fits current leftist ideas of being proud of one’s body and such. The characters are very well designed though, and it looks like the web game will be fun to watch and play if the design style is anything to go by. instruction
Character Design Ideas Prompts
Each unique character design features an overweight kid with superpowers. Bright colors and a 3D style make characters stand out, and this is the essence of effective character design. It would make a great short or animated film. (source)
A series of random but fun pictures by the talented Chabe Escalante. The pencil work is fabulous and looks like a Disney and manga style. Colors are vibrant and profiling is sublime. Looking at the characters, one tends to write a story about them, maybe make an animated short film.
Concept artist and illustrator Vicente Valentin created these amazing character models. The style and influence of these characters is quite huge. It reminds me of DC and Marvel comics and the level of detail and perspective is just amazing.
The line work, shadows, and color compositions add depth and dynamism to the characters, making them look like they’re about to spring into action at any moment. (source)
30 Best Villain Character Design Ideas You Should Check
Another set of fun characters created by the talented Chabe Escalante is on this list. I just love her illustrations. This time around, Chabe explored some of DC’s main characters and gave them a new perspective. He’s created alternate versions of the characters, possibly when they were young, and he’s created a series that could actually be your regular people, wearing trademark suits and bomber jackets.
Anyway, Chabe’s character explorations look amazing and I think an animated series with these characters will really take off. (source)
Asian Connection is a series of characters inspired by a trip to China and Japan by talented digital artist Tano Bonfanti, who was inspired by the incredible and powerful images he decided to create as characters. The characters seem to be from a post-apocalyptic world 300 years later. They appear to have bionic implants and cyborg extensions. The clothes are quite trendy and inspired by Japanese clothing such as the kimono. The weapons are also pretty bionic and look great. There is even a samurai sword.
These characters appear to be rendered in 3D and look like they could be used as inspiration for a sci-fi movie like Ghost In The Shell. (source)
Let’s Create A Character For Western Fantasy!
Created by Goodname Studio, this character set is one of my favorites because I love everything related to the 30s and 40s: art deco, fashion, and steampunk. Or maybe even the 50s and 60s. The studio’s mission was to design the characters and environments according to very specific stories for the animated project.
The characters look very elegant and stylish. The illustration style is very similar to a project we did for one of our clients: clean lines, slightly larger than life and very visible. (source)
Now that’s a fun character that will really make an impact on any marketing campaign. The 3D rendered T-rex looks like an adult T-rex, but fun, harmless and gentle. The 3D is very flawless with attention to detail and the various poses carried the entirety of the giant very well.
Designed by Gal Yosef and Fusion Studio, the character design is an exploration of how to take an almost clichéd icon and breathe fresh life and perspective into it. TBurger’s marketing campaign seems well thought out and planned. (source)

Everyone loves Marvel characters, or so I’d like to think. I’m a big fan and I love movies. We’ve seen many different versions of Marvel character illustrations, but this series by the talented Josep Sole takes the cake.
These characters are very whimsical and almost goofy – crossover and caricature-looking, but they bring out the individuality and strengths of each of the characters. Captain America looks serious, but you can see a sense of purpose in his eyes. The Hulk looks insane as usual, but his power is coming out. Iron Man looks leaner than I’d like, but there’s a sense of style and sophistication to him. And finally, Thor looks epic with his badass attitude, bravado, and strength. (source)
This series of characters is quite unique in that they actually look more like photographs than illustrations. They were created by Max Twain in Vladivostok, Russian Federation and are a combination of illustration, photography and 3D CGI rendering. They look out of this world. With a sense of realism that is difficult to achieve with CGI, Max was able to achieve a large array of character models.
If they don’t say they’re CGI, it’s hard to guess they’re there on closer inspection. Hats off to Max! (source)

The characters of this great game The Evil Within 2 for PS4 are designed and perfected very well. Again, they look more like real characters than CGI, especially on the cover with the white pain overlay. (source)
I wish I could do a top 20 character design or even a top 30. There are so many great character models out there, including 2D and 3D characters, that this list is probably too limited in scope, but my goal was to showcase a wide variety of design styles and aesthetics. If you have any favorite character designs, even comic book illustrations, that you’d like to share, please post links to them in the comments section below.

Theo 🍊✨ On X: “some Dnd Character Design Ideas
So how do we create interesting and fun characters? Well, aside from avoiding too many common tropes, I have 7 guidelines to help you create your character.
Creating small drawings creates a flood of ideas and is done very quickly. Watch the demonstration video.
The most attractive miniatures will generally create the most attractive finish. When you zoom in on a small drawing, all those ideas can become more fleshed out. Take the things you love about baby and keep their solid essence when you remodel.
After you finish drawing, keep trying different variations of characters’ hair, clothing, accessories, skin tone, etc… You might not fall in love with just one of the options and have to mix and match the best one. result
Drawing Ideas Characters
Shapes inform the viewer. They say things like “This character is sharp!” or “This character is round and approachable.” Or even “This character is detailed and dangerous.” Forms will allow us to access these feelings. A triangular hat, a square bracelet, all you need to know is when to implement each shape for the desired effect.
If you feel stuck visually, thinking with words can generate more ideas. In the Modern Druid example, I was thinking verbally, and that helps too. If you can write down stats like height and weight, or even a paragraph or two in the character’s bio, you’ll feel more confident about the image.
Portraits, action shots, stills, expressions…all are valid ways to test character. Disney artists were great at this, and many anime artists have these types of character design sheets.
Be prepared to start over or repair large parts of the job. It might get to the point of “too intense” but I’m more than willing to bet on it
