How To Decorate Fireplace Hearth – I put a beautiful fireplace mantel and hearth with beautiful flowers and a spring flower.

When the old man goes in the winter, there is always excitement in our house.  The trees are covered with the promise of new growth, and the birds, returning from their winter journey to warmer climes, greet us each morning with their joyous spring songs.  Everything outside of us seems to be electrified as they live.

Before I take a closer look at the fireplace, let me say how excited I am to be joining the Home Holiday Blog in March!  Our theme this month is “Spring has come.”  Be sure to scroll down for links to other great spring inspiration.

Cozy Fall Fireplace Decor: Warm Colors, Blankets, And Inspiration

Good – back to seasonal fireplace decor.  This is the view from the foyer to our family room.

You know, above all else, my desire for this blog is to inspire you in your decorating and home endeavors.  Don’t be afraid to spread your wings!  I know some of you feel overwhelmed at the thought of decorating for a certain season or holiday.  Sometimes me too!  However, let’s break it down a bit.  If you’re thinking about using things you already own, it can help make the process a bit more complicated.

I’ve said it many times – I like to keep things simple.  This is exactly why I chose the wood and metal arched panel that hangs over the fireplace.  I know I can leave it up all year and change who hangs it or leans against it.  It currently serves as a backdrop for a seasonal magnolia leaf wreath that I suspended from a long string.  I’ve been looking for a long time for an artificial magnolia wreath that looks like the real thing.  I finally found the perfect one in Painted Fox.  Believe it or not, the leaves are made of paper, but you wouldn’t know they weren’t real by looking at them.  Click HERE to order yours

This is why I keep the same wooden shutters that are part of my Christmas mantel as a backdrop for the large candles on my winter mantelpiece.  I even put small twig wreaths on top of the candlesticks to add a little interest to the box.  I moved the bowl of dough from its place on my makeshift couch table and filled it with the trees and branches that were already inside.  I bent it a little so you can see inside it better.

Fall Mantel Guide

Over the hearth, I filled the basket with a burst of the same faux tulips I used last year as a spring kitchen table centerpiece.  A bowl filled with real cat willow branches sits next to a slotted wooden lamp on the other side of the hearth.  I bought these branches last spring and stored them well until I pulled them again this year.

Well, look?  There is nothing difficult here.  And I didn’t spend any money either.  Shop your home and move things around for a new look.  It might take you more than a day to get it looking the way you want, but that’s okay!  Just play and change and the most important entertainment in your home. When I’m not blogging, I like to go out on the town for a day with my husband, talk to my three young adults about their lives, and plan anything. I can – parties, projects, trips, budgets – I plan it! Click here to learn more about me!

Looking for ways to update your fireplace hearth and mantel? I have made some changes to ours over the years that have made me fall in love with mine!

When we bought this house in 2003, replacing the fireplace face, hearth, and mantel was not high on my list.

How To Update A Fireplace Hearth And Mantel

Honestly, it never crossed my mind until I started sailing about five years ago 🤪.

It took me a few years to finally find my happiness 😳.

What’s the point – slow and steady wins the race? I think I lived up to that motto with this project!

While he was doing this – I suddenly thought of changing my old fireplace face.

By this time, I had swapped out the cheap builder’s fireplace doors for these custom wrought iron doors, painted the top with textured suede paint, and added the original small builder grade mantel.

But even with the last three changes, I’m still not happy with how it looks… I know I need more changes!

Unfortunately, I wasn’t good at taking photos back then, but here’s a photo from 2016:

40 Modern Mantel Decor Ideas To Elevate Your Fireplace With Style

If you’ve read my past decorations (hopefully you have!) – you know this isn’t my furniture set ;). My craftsman friend went to the wall on the left when I finally got a “before” picture of my next project (ahem – the hearth and mantel).

We already hired someone to replace our fireplace doors about ten years ago for a more modern craftsman look ;).

My neighbor had the fireplace doors replaced by a local company so I didn’t have to do any research (wouldn’t that be the best thing when that happens?!)

The fireplace company we use now has free shipping all over the US, so I highly recommend checking it out!

After nearly a decade of looking up, I finally realized I could pull that white tablecloth off the wall and replace it with a beautiful reclaimed wood tablecloth.

I’ve always loved the look of reclaimed wood and have been pinning photos on Pinterest for a long time.

In San Diego’s North County, near wine country, we have a beautiful reclaimed wood shop for any local who wants to make a day of it!

They had five tablecloths in their showroom ready to hang for me to choose from. I’m also thankful for that because I’m not very good when I have too many choices 😂.

They also sent me home with the correct wax after the hang, so less guessing!

We had the children write where the new tablecloth went. There’s a lot of graffiti art going on here 😂.

After replacing our old tablecloth, we added shiplap to the space above it – filling in a silly/hard work space.

We do this by placing pine boards in the space and covering them with plasterboard so that the ship’s deck is connected to this material.

Everyday Fireplace Decor

Because I haven’t been on Instagram or blogging yet, it’s not even in my mind to think about progress… Sorry 😜.

In 2020 I learned how to install boards and planks. If you’re not a ship fan, I love the look I’ve seen on my friends’ fireplaces ;).

So after I finished painting every square inch of the master bathroom, I thought why not paint around the fireplace.

I didn’t quite get the look I wanted here, but luckily I’m still happy with the result ;).

I was looking for an elegant look that kept the stone look but removed the orange/peach/yellow tones.

I’m not sure if it was the paint I chose to use or if it just wasn’t in the cards for me to get the look I wanted, but here are the steps I followed to get the end result:

At this point, I tried to paint it a little so it doesn’t look like it’s completely painted.

I once read on another friend’s blog that sometimes you have to spend time on projects to like the results.

39 Enchanting Fall Fireplace Decor Ideas

For more than a month I’ve been sitting on the sofa in front of the fireplace, oh, I don’t like it because it’s so white!

But now I’m really used to the look and can honestly say it looks better on me than the peach and orange.

Now when I go to my friends house they are still there
