Create your own personalized daily card I believe in making things a little more special whenever you can. Cards are one of those things. They can be easy, economical and fun to make. And, you appreciate the people you treat so much because you spent a little extra time to do something for them. I recently made birthday cards for my three grandchildren. They are always so happy when I make one, personalized with their name on it. It might give you some ideas to try yourself. All words and text on my cards are handwritten. Don’t be afraid to use your own handwriting, it can make the card more personal and special.
The first card shows a fun way to include the age of the person they are dating Here, my grandson is 6 years old. First, when making a card from scratch, find the envelope you want to use to get the measurements of the card. [This is a real “bumper” for finishing a card only to find it won’t fit in your envelope] All of these cards come in a standard business size envelope. I always use a nice heavy weight/card stock paper for my cards. With this one, it was a nice green “linen” paper. I create a design idea in my head for my card and start gathering the supplies I need.
I folded the card in half and then cut a piece of coordinating scrapbook paper for the front, leaving a green border around this piece. I spaced them out evenly, giving me three smaller pieces to complete the front design. I wrote the text above in the top square, then “6”, in the middle. I cut the “eye” out of a piece of scrapbook paper [you could draw eyes or cut something out of a magazine], folded it in half so it could be lifted to reveal the words “It’s You” hidden beneath the expression. [How fun is that!] The front is finished by creating lines running around the inside of each of the three squares, running along a ruler with a fine tip marker. I made dots with a black marker around the outer edge of the scrapbook paper. This helped to “frame” the entire card design.
Inside, I applied two pieces of paper triangles that I cut from the same scrap paper I used on the front of the card. I stuck a small piece of green rectangle paper in the center of each triangle. Then I overlapped the tips of the triangles and placed a rectangle piece of solid colored paper on top, in the middle. I wrote his name at the top, “Happy Birthday!” “I love you” in the middle and at the end. I finished the inside with lines and dots like the front. At the bottom of the page was space for my signature.

I used lavender cardstock for the body of the card. I cut a rectangular piece of patterned scrap paper and adhered it to the front of the card then adhered two triangle pieces of plain coordinating colored paper.
I stuck the dollar store “flower” decorations on top of the yellow triangles. Finally I drew some swirls with a fine purple marker, added around the outer edge of the card and wrote “For Your Special Day” in the bottom right corner.
This and the third card are the “three times” cards. You need to score one, fold two, so that the card has three panels across the opening. On the inside panel of this card, I first adhered a piece of scrapbook paper [like the card front], with the lavender paper edge of the card showing. then cut
Cut the bottom edge of the scallop out of three pieces of white paper. Follow them, one at a time
Green Nature Business Holiday Card
Three panels. [I only applied glue along the top edge of the middle white area so it would lift to reveal “13th”.] Place dots with a marker around the outside edge of the card and finish the text: Shubh Saria Love [at the top] and in the middle “To My Awesome Granddaughter”, “I love you!” end down with
The third card was made for my grandson’s birthday. I used blue card stock paper for the body of the card. Make three panel-two folds on the card. I adhered a piece of green scrapbook paper to the front panel, leaving a border of blue paper. I adhered a strip of coordinating patterned paper near the top of the card. [To cut the strips to fit the card, before adhering to the green paper, cut a strip of patterned scrap paper longer than the width of the card. Place this strip under the green paper [it will go diagonally] and trace with a pencil on the top right of the scrapbook paper and a line on the left.] and there was an extra arrow and cut from the blue. Outline with paper and blue maker. The card is shown with a “flower” shape glued on top of the edge of the arrow. A button was glued on top of the flower. The inside edges of the paper design were dotted with a marker and the words written on the bottom right of the card.
The three inner panels have the same scrap paper as the front pasted paper [dotted paper on the left and right panels and green in the middle one], with a border of blue card body around each panel piece. I cut three pieces of white paper to get the tops of each panel, trimmed the bottom edges, and left room for a strip of scrap paper to adhere to the bottom edges. I then glued these pieces to the top of the panel. On each top panel was written a word: Good Living Everett! In the left and right panels, the blue and white papers are separated in the lower centers of those panels. The middle panel has an “hour glass” shaped piece of cut paper, glued to the bottom center with a heart cut from blue paper and stuck in the middle of the hour glass. Birthday year “1” was written on the left panel, “I love you” and on the right “Smile, Happy, Adorable” were added around the borders as a finishing touch.
This was such a joy. Cards can be made for any occasion and will appeal to any age or gender give it a try You may be so happy with the results, you don’t want to give them up. 🙂
