Custom Designs is an app that allows the player to create designs in New Horizons using the NookPhone. The interface is similar to the previous games. However, there are many additional features. Upon first opening, the player will see 10 pre-made designs and room for 40 more designs (50 total).
To create or edit a plan, press “A” on any plan, then “Change Plan”. The interface consists of a color picker on the top (press “L” or “R” to switch between colors), a tool selection box on the right (press “X” to open the menu and select a tool), the design is drawn in the middle, and previews on the left side (press “R” to change the preview type [canvas, shirt, face mask] and move “R ” stick to change perspective).

After completing a design, the player will be prompted to name the design and then it will appear in the menu.
PRO plans can be unlocked from Nook Stop for 800 Nook Miles. Once purchased, the app will automatically update your NookPhone. When unlocked, “R” or “L” can be used to toggle between Custom and PRO Plans.
After opening the Able Sisters store, players can access the Custom Design booth with a Nintendo Switch Online subscription. From the menu, players can search for a design ID, search by creator ID, post a custom design, or view designs they’ve already posted.
In the 1.4 Summer Update (wave 2), a criteria search was added to the portal. Players can search for custom designs by typing the name they are looking for and can filter the search by a specific type. It can filter by color, theme or style.

In addition to the ability to dream, the gate is to the left of Luna’s Bed in Resident Services in the plaza. Here the player can access all personal custom designs and save them on their NookPhone.

Using NookLink in the Nintendo Switch Online app, the player can scan QR codes from New Leaf and Happy Home Designer. You can access it by going to the custom designs app and tapping the “+” button. QR codes for custom designs made for horned hats are still available and still visible as horned hats.
