App Design Ideas Pinterest – How Pinterest is uniquely different from all other social sharing apps — and where it could use improvements.

When I started researching my UX project, I had a hard time finding an application that needed improvements! Usually when you think about the apps of big companies like Facebook, Instagram, Amazon, Starbucks, Walmart, etc., you can’t imagine that their apps will have some flaws! The reason I chose Pinterest is because it’s a system I don’t use very often – so I thought it would give me the real ability to explore the app and find inconsistencies and inconsistencies with its user flow. First, I’ll give a brief overview of Pinterest as a whole:

Through my research of user reviews, blog posts, and marketing website articles, I found some general pros and cons of using Pinterest.

Looking for a recent image for the Pinterest mobile app, I now couldn’t find one that represented the entire design! I took a long time to browse the app and tried to use the many features the app offers to explore. My conclusion from the few hours I’ve researched… is that the app now has a bad case of redundant genes. I’ll just go over some of the main issues I found with the user experience, while also highlighting the many positives the app has to offer.

On the App Store, the Pinterest app has a 5/5 star review with quite a few ratings ranging from 1-3! I’ll admit that I can see the appeal of Pinterest when I’m scrolling intensely — I’ve recently started using it more for graphic design inspiration for current projects. This analysis found many inconsistencies, but frankly it hardly rules out the Pinterest experience. These criticisms are only from user experience, and I think these small criticisms will make the app smoother.

The main problem I have found is that when you click to save a pin and save it to the board, there should be some kind of icon or mark on the image indicating that it has already been saved. If I click on an image like I did below after I’ve already saved it, it still gives me the option to save it again. Pinterest will then tell the user that they have already saved it once they return to the option to select a board.

Although Pinterest tells you that you have saved it after you click on the board, there is no indication afterward that the image you selected has been saved. When I went back to that photo, I was still able to select Save, but then Pinterest told me I had already saved it.

How To Use Pinterest To Inspire Home Design

One example of an internet item that is unfamiliar to the everyday user is this button I found called Visual Search. While the visual search features are really cool and very useful for digging deeper into an image, I feel like they are overlooked. Visual search is a new type of search option in general, so creating a button for it would be a challenge in itself. I feel like the button they use looks a lot like the Youtube Full Screen option, which is actually what I thought the button did when I first saw it.

When you click on that, a camera icon will appear in which you will find cakes similar to the image shown.

The visual search button made me think of the full screen button on Youtube, and what full screen buttons are for videos and images.

One thing I discovered while browsing for Pinterest is the camera icon in the search bar. It can be found on every screen except the Saved screen.

The main downside I found with the lenses is when you click on one of the default lenses, every image doesn’t fit on the screen, and because of the white space, the user can’t see the camera or the back button! This can make the user feel confused and trapped in the choice they made and have no choice but to tap on the search bar, which takes them out of browser mode and back to the home page.

With all these issues, the lens mode actually works, but the user flow to turn it on shouldn’t be as buggy as you mentioned. Image search is really cool when you can get it working as shown below!

What I found while browsing for Pinterest is the sheer amount of “recommended” names. When I looked for the app in the App Store, many recent reviews complained that they were tired of seeing all the recommended things from Pinterest and just wanted to know who they were following and what they were actually interested in. The names are many, and here are the names I found:

If I were to redesign this issue, I would remove many of these options, create a static page just for the recommended ones, shrink the notification page so it doesn’t take up a full page, and move the Next tab to be the page. home page

This issue is very small, but I noticed that it would bother me if I was browsing through photos! If you are scrolling through the homepage images, you can tap the home button to return to the top. This option is always great with a browsing type of app because that way you don’t have to manually scroll all the way to the top. However, what I noticed on Pinterest, if you press the home button, it will take you back to the top, but it will also automatically refresh the page for the user.

I can see a problem with this if someone saw an image they may have wanted to keep, but then transferred it anyway. Later, if they eventually want to save that photo or just go back to it, they should be able to press the home button and find it again at the top of the screen instead of manually scrolling the screen with their thumb to find it. for that. But currently, if they press the home button, they will go back to the top but their screen will refresh and new images will appear, causing the image the user wanted to see again to disappear.

Let’s just say I thought I liked the Starboy picture on the top right, but I scrolled past it. I went down and realized I liked it in the end and wanted to keep it so I hit the home button

The first user flow refers to Pinterest’s method of saving an image to a board, also known as “pinning” something. As I explained above, when you click an image and save it to any board of your choice, users get a notification saying “Saved to __”. However, if you click on the image again, it won’t say “Saved” or show any indication that you actually saved that image somewhere. When you click “Save” again, Pinterest will tell you “Psst, you already saved this.” Clicking on the image to save it again to see if it was saved is an unnecessary extra step. My way of solving this problem is when you save a pin and go back to the main page, the image you saved will have some kind of icon that says “Saved” on the image.

New Version: I created a new “Pin” icon that will be on the image after the user saves it to the board. I also added the word “Saved” so if the user clicks on a previously saved image, they will be notified.

This user flow doesn’t exactly have a “flow”, it’s just a redesign of the visual search button. Because the visual search button looks very similar to the “Bring Screen” button, the button gets overlooked when in fact it’s a great feature that more users should learn about.

New Version: I took inspiration from visual search buttons from other companies and created my own version that I feel better represents what visual search is.

This user flow seems like a lot of steps, but it’s really just a solution for the colorization of the camera button and back button in Pinterest Lenses. Since they are white buttons, they cannot be seen when you click on the lens. Making the camera buttons another color like gray or red will make them pop out, removing the user flow.
