Each member of our family has different qualities that make us special. When I think about the characteristics of my children, for example, some of them always text or call me and let me know if they are late. Some of them keep their rooms clean; some like to take risks and are good at getting up when they fail. I love them all and each one makes me feel joy in a different way. None of my children are the same.

Just like my children, each season of the year has certain characteristics that set them apart. For example, when I think of summer, I think of warm sunny days, and sandy beaches. Autumn’s virtues are dominated by cool weather and colorful leaves.

Fall Tiered Tray Diy Apple Decor

This week feels like fall in Iowa, folks. I’m not talking about beautiful, crisp fall days with sunshine and gently falling leaves and all that. NO.

From the 90s and sunny, to the 40s/50s, dark, windy and rainy for 5 days in a row now. Rough.

But it got me thinking about my fall decor. I’m not ready to get my pumpkins out yet

The apple theme made me think a little outside the box, since I don’t have many “apple” things. I decided this was the perfect opportunity to display some of my vintage baking equipment, as some of it matches my color scheme. Besides, apples and cake go hand in hand, right?

Early Fall Apple Themed Tiered Tray

Antique spice box. Above was my great grandmother’s handwriting written “whole cloves”. Still filled with “vintage” cloves too! 😂

I was so excited to use one of my other Willow Tree Angels for this tiered tray. Since my kids gave me most of these over the years growing up, they bring back great memories.

The mason jar candles you saw before, in my 4th of July Tiered Tray. This time, I cut a piece of old fabric from my mother’s collection and slipped it over the top, reminiscent of an old jelly jar.

I also got a small stone jug at an antique shop. I overpaid for it, but I couldn’t resist because it said “Iowa” on it, and it reminded me of a full-sized jug my mom used to have. It works well here with a tin cup, as it is ready to pour cider into. 🍎

Again, I had to make my own specifications depending on the theme. I found a small piece of scrap wood in the garage, then printed off a picture online that I liked, and cut it to the right size to fit the wood block.

Mod Podge, so I made it myself by mixing water and glue. I laid it out on the wood, then I fixed the paper, and then spread the glue on the paper as well, to seal it.

I ended up filling in the gaps on the tiered tray with faux flowers from Hobby Lobby. I chose a sunflower in a cream shade to match my color scheme. I tend to use more subdued colors overall, with just a pop of seasonal color.

I repeated my favorite Milk Candle with a little plaid ribbon, for more color near the background.

I will probably save this Early Apple Series Tray until early October, and then it will officially be pumpkin season in my book, giving me an excuse to recreate this tray again soon . 🤪#serial tray obsession
