First, have your child paint a pattern on his apron. As good as pushing the crayons without breaking. For younger children, you can add words or designs to the colors.

With your iron on the cotton setting, press the image and wax paper for 10-15 seconds. The combination of wax paper and heat allows the crane to form into the fabric.
When you finish this easy apron, not only will your child be covered and clean while being creative, but you’ll also have an original piece of art created by your little one. Be proud to wear it! Happy holiday season! If you follow me on my personal Instagram, you know that even though I’m not a chef, I really love to cook and bake. It probably ties in with my three favorite hobbies, sewing and reading. Well, I’m going to sleep. Actually sleeping is my number one hobby. Mmmmm…sleep.
However, like my sewing habits, I am no ordinary cook. I walk out of the kitchen like I’ve passed a mild hurricane, and usually wear a bit of each ingredient. My first tip for this situation is that dishwashing liquid always removes grease stains! My second tip – always wear an apron!
I have been wanting to make a shawl style apron like this for a while. First, they are very cute. And for two, I usually remember having an apron to put on when handling raw chicken, frying pans splattering everywhere, and having one that I could pull over my head with one hand was important to me. to join I am nothing if not practical.

Funny story, I got my fabric for this apron from Fabric Wholesale Direct and while I was developing this pattern they reached out to me and gave me some of their fabric for a project! So even though this post isn’t sponsored they are sending me another fabric idea for another great gift that I’ll share soon! I turned to their washing machine for this project because there’s nothing like a well-used, wrinkled linen apron in your kitchen. Their plates are described as “medium to heavy weight with a strong yet soft body and antique finish” and I couldn’t have said it better. It is good for clothing as well as home appliances. And the price is unbeatable! I chose charcoal and natural colors to match my neutral-toned home, but there’s a rainbow of beautiful saturated colors to suit every palette!
While I was making one for myself I thought I would make a pattern for all of us to share! I think the Pimento Apron would also make a nice gift. It’s a great handmade item to combine with some baked goods for a totally DIY gift, or you can pair it with another kitchen-related item. A few of my favorites:
I multipurposed this apron with the idea of giving it as a gift. It’s truly a one-size-fits-all style, but I wanted to make sure it looked best on every person, so I graded it from XS to XL to cover approximately 32″ to 60″ hips. This apron is for adults (160cm knee length for a tall person), but you can reduce the skirt length and belt length and use an XS for kids from 8. In the spirit of last-minute gift giving, I designed this apron to fit a narrower fabric and only used 1.5 meters. The largest size will require a full 42″ width of fabric; so keep in mind that it won’t work for an XL if your fabric is printed and has a really wide hem. Otherwise, any widths 42″ and up 1.5 yards of fabric works for all sizes!
Peppermint FWD looks great in linen, but it can be made in any woven fabric (or any knit fabric! You prefer.)

The gown shown in this post is a size S with a 38″ hip. If you have to guess at your buyer, an S or M is technically a one-size-fits-all, but if the wearer is larger than indicated on the size chart they won’t have the same coverage around the back hem or across the chest width.
These instructions are for finishing the edges with one layer of bias tape using the French method. This is the easiest way to apply bias tape. However, it requires you to roll the store-bought single-fold bias tape and press it again to get one fold, and for this method the total width of the bias tape must be 2 inches (yes, you heard that right, manufactured ” Single fold” bias tape has two factory folds, but double folds have 4, but I understand they mean each side separately.) Alternatively, you can make your own. Bias tape by placing several strips together or using a continuous bias tape. Tutorial your tape and cut it to 2″ wide. (Hot tip: I don’t press it in half, I line up the two raw edges as I sew. You have to work a little slower to make this work, but it’s faster than pressing 200+ sheets of bias tape. ) If you’re using continuous tape training, you’ll need a 24-inch square of fabric with a little extra to get enough bias tape for the largest size.
If you choose to purchase and apply double-layer bias tape, that’s totally fine too, but that’s not covered in this tutorial. Finally, you can make a narrow double fold on all edges, completely bypassing the bias. Instructions will include instructions for this method.
The Allspice Apron pattern prints on 13 letter or A4 paper on your home printer. I recommend printing from the free Adobe Reader program on a computer so you can access the layers functionality. If you do this, you’ll see the following at the bottom of your layer menu (diamond overlay on the left). If you want more information about layers or how to bring up the layers option in your side menu, do a quick Google search; You can find tons of information to help you.

Then you can select the sizes you want to print so you don’t have to print them all. This example shows that only size M is printed.
Print at 100% (no scaling) and make sure your orientation is set to “Auto” (not landscape or portrait). If you printed correctly, each page will have a 7″ x 10″ frame in the center of the page where the pattern will print within that frame and the reference frame on page 1 will be the correct size. If necessary, print only page 1 first to check that page 1 prints correctly before printing the rest of the pages.
After printing you will need to tape the pages together. If you want to make it neat and tidy, cut the top and left edges of each paper for easy assembly. If you want to tape it in about a minute regardless of how neat it is, overlap the borders and align the pages along the frames so the triangles match up and form a diamond pattern (only on the edges where the triangles are. Necessary). to link to another page). This is 100% my method. Some people compromise and pull back two margins. If you overlap, the borders will cover parts of the pattern. It’s so simple that you won’t have trouble connecting the lines with your scissors or rotary cutter when cutting the pattern, but for more complex patterns I go in with a pencil and draw the pattern towards the borders that cover it. Diagram showing how to tape the pattern together:
Once your pattern is put together you can cut it out (I use a separate rotary cutter for paper!). You have one piece, the full apron pattern, cut on the fold, and the second piece, the front pocket, cut on the fold.
