Architecture Presentation Board Layout Design – This post follows the four boards discussed last week. To see what I’ve done so far, read this first. I’ve mostly kept the overall look of the original presentation, however, I’ve tweaked some elements and made edits in an attempt to make the compositions more readable.
The original display panel contains a lot of information. I felt the layout worked, but there was some unhelpful information that could have been removed.

1. Images: As in panel 1, the images in panel 3 are too desaturated. At the time, I thought I would make the building stand out by de-saturating the landscape. However, over the years, I’ve spent less time trying to make my designs stand out and more time experimenting with the location around the buildings in an attempt to create a better relationship between the two.

2. Physical model: There is no real reason to put pictures of the physical model you made for the project on display boards. I thought including these photos would give me big points for the contest. In fact, they add no value to the story I want these paintings to tell.
With the new display board, the first thing I focused on was adding color and life to my illustrations. A lot of time was spent adding colors and textures to the existing illustrations. I also focused on simplifying the panels. The main image now has plenty of room to breathe, while the four vignettes at the bottom are larger and more present on the canvas rather than just floating in space. There’s an important detail about how the new design of the museum relates to Saarinen’s original building, and I wanted to reiterate that. Therefore, I separated it from the other vignettes and linked its location back to the highs.
Not much has changed with this record. I felt the layout worked well. The only thing I thought needed adjusting was the size of the building’s roof plan illustration. I felt like it was competing too much with the site plan in panel 1. As with the other panels, the illustrations at the bottom are very desaturated and I’ve hidden them for some reason haha.
As you can see, the two are relatively similar. I moved some things around so that the new board grid connects to the other new board grids. I also added tones and textures to some of the illustrations.

With a few simple color corrections and simple textural tweaks, I was able to make some interesting changes to the look of the competition boards. The original panel structure is still there, but this time I err on the side of simplicity and clarity on the amount of information. Presentation board styles, techniques and layout may vary according to prevailing trends, by university, culture, country, etc.
