Art Decoration Ideas For Room – Well, hello, you stranger! It’s been a while since I last chatted with you here. I was at the Art Teacher Conference in Seattle and took a short break from blogging. But now I am back. You are welcome.

As you all know, I have been involved in an art room renovation project for Bender since the beginning of this school year. And I didn’t slow down. I realized the other day that I had made a bunch of new things and hung them up in my room and neglected to post them here. Of course, I’m oversharing here…if you need more crazy in your life.

Art Decoration Ideas For Room

Let’s start here, shall we? This is the main entrance/exit to my art room (I also have an exterior door, an office door, and a side door. I’m very happy with the door) and here’s a peek inside. The blurry thing you see through the window is the rainbow wreath hanging on my door, and behind that is our giant “It’s OK to Be Different” mural. I have had this saying hanging on my door for a long time, but was originally a handwritten piece of laminated poster. It began to look sad and pale. And while I liked the message, I hated the sign. So I painted a version and it now hangs on my door. I found Mermaid at the Nashville Flea Market (a must see if you’re ever in town…every last weekend of the month!). Originally he had a blue tail and blonde hair. I wanted to hang it in my house but it just didn’t look right anywhere. One night I painted it all the colors of the rainbow and now it’s hanging over my door!

I found this board for cheap at my local craft store. I’ve always wanted a chalkboard but I was worried the kids would erase my writing… so I got some chalkboard markers! My plan is to change the registration from time to time… but I’m counting on closing it by the end of the year.

Ever since I found this heart inspired by artist Chris Apus, I’ve always wanted to hang it. Full video instructions on how to make a heart with feathers can be found here.

Now I know what you’re thinking…how can you put these things on your walls/door?! OK, here’s my secret: Command Velcro strips. Y’all, they’re the best. I use them for almost everything on my walls and nothing ever falls off. I opt for 16lb velcro to make sure everything stays anchored.

I had previously painted some other crap on this canvas and decided to paint over it. I applied chalkboard paint in the middle so I could change the sign. Again, it’s my money that my lazy ass never gets around to it. I hung a storage closet of horrors #1. My painting was inspired by the Rifle Paper Company.

Kay, so I’ve basically cleaned out my closets and thrown away piles of junk…but I still have a lot of work to do. Being in one company for 12 years and being a born slob/hamster means you learn a lot. A fun find was a giant container of magnetic letters. I left messages for the children on every door. Information about my shades and shade symbols can be found here.

Speaking of finding things… I discovered that I had several of these empty wooden planks. One evening I painted a Matisse-like background for the smiley sign. I give it my opinion. Biv brush hung on the small piece of wall space left near the wall.

I call this area of my art room “The Store” because it’s where the kids go to gather their art supplies. You can find out more about art teachers in training here (we no longer use badges, we use aprons) and more about the shop here.

Some really good artists have given me great pieces of art. I want to see it all the time… so I decided to hang it in a prominent place in my art room.

It makes me very happy. I tell you who did what, because everyone is going to sell their work. The Tennessee sign is by @artroomantics and she can paint any state. Chris Appus, who I mentioned earlier, sent me a poster of a rainbow from one of his exhibitions. Joey makes all kinds of cool stuff, from custom stationery to my Broken Crayons still color sign! My amazingly inspired friend Jennifer has created a painting every day for the past few years… and painted this portrait of me as Superwoman. My friend Stephanie sewed Small World.

And my friend Ashley, who is very talented, made this parody of me. You can also commission her to make one of your own, my friend Virginia just made one and it’s great!

One of my favorite books and one of my favorite messages. It’s here right now, but I think I’ll hang it up properly soon. As soon as I get some wall space.

Remember that flea market I told you about? Well, I found this amazing piece of art there. The artist sold it to me for $5! I added orange to the frame to make it stand out since the original color matches my walls.

I even found these at the flea market! They actually open and close and I’ve used them to talk to kids about scissor safety. It’s quite amusing. I jazzed them up a bit with silver and red spray paint.

I attached them to the wall with some velcro strips so I could remove them easily. Also new: I painted my magazine rack like a rainbow! It was given to me when another teacher moved away. I am not sure what they will hold. I also spray painted my storage containers by grade level…I need to put the teachers names on them. The large clipboard was a second-hand invention. My idea is that this could be a drawing center for my first graders.
