Cut out features from thick green felt and hot-glue (adult’s work). Have students draw on them with a permanent marker

If you’re not familiar with the Blue Ribbon Project, it’s an amazing organization that supports victims of child abuse and youth in foster care. The Love Backpack initiative helps provide essential items for foster children on their first day

To help, I’ve customized two backpacks – the Tropical Flower Backpack for 9-10 year old girls and the Rocket Backpack for 5-6 year old boys.

Gather all the following items that you will need to assemble the backpack For both bags, I used my Cricket Scraper Tool, Cricket Raw, Cricket Weeder, Sugar Berry on Cricket Everyday Iron, Cricket Ease Press Mini and a bag of Everest.

Open the Tropical Flower Bag in Cricut Design Space™ to cut flowers on pink vinyl and tropical leaves on purple vinyl. Be sure to place the vinyl shiny side up and use a Cricut Scraper to flatten the vinyl on your cutting mat before cutting. This will help you achieve an even, flat cut

Use your Cricut scissors to cut around the design, saving access for another project, then use the Cricut Wiper to remove the unnecessary vinyl. Proceed to cut out the flowers and tropical leaves and arrange them below

To prevent the backpack from melting into the rubber lining, place a sponge before using the Cricut Easypress Mini to transfer the design. Since iron-on vinyl comes with a plastic transfer, simply set your EasyPress Mini to the first or second setting and press on top of the transfer sheet. It’s simple! 🙂

I gently pressed the design onto the bag while I set the timer on my phone for 30 seconds. Better to take the easypress, then take it back and repeat to transfer the design instead of moving it back and forth like an iron. This will ensure that the vinyl stays in place

I repeated the same steps for the rocket backpack, however, using the rocket design that you can find in Cricut’s Design Space. Since the roots are smaller than the tropical flowers and leaves, I used my Cricut scissors to remove the Everest patch before transferring the vinyl.
