Basic Design Ideas – One of the most common questions I get about handwriting is how to put together a good, attractive design. There are many ways to do this, some of which I’ll share in my upcoming book, but today, I want to give you a quick, easy design template that you can use for any phrase you want to write. All you need to do is start with a simple circle. Look…

I love using coffee mugs and there are definitely plenty around the house to choose from! I used the lid of a potato chip container and various other materials that I could find the sizes I wanted for my design.

Basic Design Ideas

I like to start by choosing which words I want to emphasize in my sentence. For this, I chose the words “first,” “coffee,” and “things.” Each quote in your letter obviously contains different words that you want to consider with special attention. I generally like to use brush script or large serif caps for my main words, then use smaller print for the rest. So, that’s how I wrote this particular phrase. Since “coffee” is the focal point of the quote, I also drew a quick banner around it.

Interior Design Basics

When I sketch, I don’t worry about the exact layout of the letters, just the spacing and position. It’s time to delete, try again and get your design the way you want it.

Step 5: If you want to finish the circle shape with emphasis, you can add a border.
