Use the water brush first. Squeeze it a little to squeeze out some water. Then paint with water to create a circle shape.

Then take one of the water-based markers and dab it with water on the areas you painted on. This is how we will create a watercolor effect with markers and a water brush.

If you notice that the color is not bright enough, take the pencil and color it again.

Use a paper towel or cloth to clean the water brush so that it does not get into the next watercolor background.

To speed up the drying process, take a cloth and tap it to remove excess water.

Happy Birthday Card

Repeat the steps above with the desired markers for the watercolor background. I’m making three different colors because in the next steps I will draw balloons on them.

Draw rectangles with a black marker and color them inside. This is where our Happy Birthday caption will be.

Make sure the rectangles are large enough for the letters to fit inside. And if you want to add a longer message, you can also draw more rectangles.

Once the watercolor background was completely dry, I used the Pigeon Letters 03 mono-line pen to draw the balloons.

Clean & Simple Silhouette Birthday Card

Using your best letters, write Happy Birthday inside the black rectangles we drew earlier. I chose to write Happy Birthday in block letters using the Craftsmart Extra Fine Oil Marker, but you can use any gel pen or white marker that will stand out on the back rectangles.

If you like this font style. And you want to practice, I made a capital letters worksheet for you. Fill out the form at the end of this blog post to download it for FREE!

You can leave the card as is or add some embellishments to make it stand out! I decided to draw stars and dots around the map.
