Back To School Bookmarks
I like to draw flowers and immerse myself in watercolor. So why not combine them to create beautiful botanical watercolor markers!
If you have a large piece of paper like I do, first cut the paper to the desired bookmark size.
I have seen many different sizes online and it depends on your personal preference. I cut these bookmarks to 2 1/2 inches wide and 6 inches long.
Then, using a water-based marker of your choice, begin adding color to the top layer of water.

Then you can add more water or use more color from the marker. The more colors you use, the richer your watercolor background will be. On the other hand, if you want a lighter watercolor background, add more water.
I recommend sketching this part on a different piece of paper or practicing it beforehand if this is your first time drawing flower designs. Practicing ahead of time will help you create space in your bookmark.

Use a kneaded eraser to slightly erase the pencil marks. This will help you see the sketch without the pencil marks being too noticeable.

After the sketching is done, it’s time to outline the floral designs. I use the Monoline Studio Pen 03. Make sure you only outline with this pen.
Using only two different types of flower drawings and two different types of greenery, you can combine them to create different botanical drawing compositions for your bookmarks.
Use a hole punch to punch a hole in one end of the bookmark. I use this cute star punch. There are also heart and circle punches.
Insert the tassel all the way through, leaving a small opening in the fret itself to thread the rest of the tassel through.
Bookmarks For Libraries
You can go a step further and laminate them if you want them to last longer or if you think they will get a lot of use.
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and it inspires you to start making your own watercolor and floral doodle bookmarks today! These watercolor bookmarks are quick and easy to make and would make the perfect gift for a friend who loves books!
Subscribe to my newsletter for updates on my new benefits, workbooks, lessons and blog posts. Last weekend was quite unusual for me. Instead of spending two days at home doing productive work, I ended up baking a delicious loaf of banana bread, going to an awesome event (more on that another time), and pulling a box of my rarely used art supplies out of storage. A quick look inside and I knew what I wanted to play with. Watercolors! This is how these three bookmarks were created.
For the first design, I started by marking the frame (using a soft pencil). Then I randomly added lines going in all random directions to create a stained glass design.
Handmade Bookmarks Photos And Images
I then went around each piece with a black marker – it added a nice contrast to the design.
For the second design β a bit more complex β I started by tracing the design in pencil. I decided to design a sunset over the sea with two palm trees in the foreground.
I switched to watercolor and started with the background, painting a gradient sunset sky and the reflection of the sky in the water.
For the third design, I was looking for another simple idea. I colored many balloons in different colors.
Corner Bookmarks Designs
I added some balloons on top of the already painted ones (I made sure the first layer was completely dry before I painted it!).
And one more πΊ This floral card was made for my grandmother’s birthday. Another stitched card – lucky clover π Simple but cute! I made it for my father’s birthday. Christmas is just around the corner! Just a quick pastel drawing of a robin on a holly βπ² Inspired by a parrot feather I found in a local park π¦ London’s parrot population, originally established by pets decades ago, is now huge! Another quilling postcard – a bouquet of flowers ππ· Another quilling postcard ππΊπ·
