Bullet Journal Design Ideas Aesthetic – I work a lot with vellum paper in my bullet journal, but when I was thinking about the concept of a June spread, the idea of vellum swirls kept coming to mind, so I had to give the concept a try. I then drew a small calendar grid for June using No. 08 Micron.

Habit trackers are always clear next to the moon, so I drew 3 grid habit trackers using the same micron and ruler pens. One of my favorite parts of the 30 day month is how awesome the grid is…so satisfying! Three habit trackers are assigned to track daily hydration, exercise, and gratitude moments.

In addition to having complementary design elements, these two pages also feature complementary content. The page on the left is where I can keep track of June’s favorites: your favorite songs, movies and/or TV shows, books, and memories. These types of “record keeping” entries are fun pages to revisit in the future because they are like a walk down memory lane.

The left page is meant to reflect on the past, while the right page is future oriented with a little “do your thing” list of things I don’t always want to do but often have to do. . Such as doing laundry, washing the tub, checking expenses, preparing food, descaling the coffee machine, etc. Perhaps my favorite design choice this month was my decision to add black thread in the slits of the kraft paper swirls.

Summer is right around the corner, so now seems like a good time to write down a list of summer activities I want to do this year. One thing I always like to do when the weather warms up is go through my closet and see if I’m missing any staple pieces…I want to take advantage of the nice weather and I’ll go to some of these. I don’t usually go to coffee shops in Toronto. I still have some things to do, like installing air conditioning in my condo unit and maintaining plants (like repotting).

Now most of you know this, but if you don’t know, all of my grandparents were born and raised in Portugal, so my background is Portuguese. While I have a basic understanding of Portuguese, my speaking skills have never been anything special, so I’ve been practicing the language over the years. So, one thing I want to do this summer is try to challenge myself to do a month of Portuguese practice for 30 days, spending 20 minutes a day practicing Portuguese so that I can consume more Portuguese content.

At the bottom of the page I added a blank section to write any “bellas palavras” which Google tells me are “beautiful words”. So every time I come across a cute Portuguese word that I don’t want to forget, I now assign it a place.

Kraft paper swirls have been making a comeback lately, along with a few other Pinterest images that caught my eye. Each day of the week has its own vertical rectangle to represent the weekly distribution –

Except for Saturday and Sunday, I combine them into one since they are usually not heavy days.

To fill in the little gaps, I added a little dot to jot down meal ideas and wrote a note on the left page that said “Pray for sunny days” since the sun is a little out in Toronto in May. It’s more spread out than I’d like, so I’d be grateful if June was a little sunnier!

I think it’s not too dramatic that I would be lost without my bullet journal. It keeps me on track and reminds me where and what I should be doing every day. I’ve been trying to get creative with bullet journaling for years and have tried many ways to add color and make it more visually appealing. But the way my bullet journal works best for me is when I prioritize functionality over creativity.

I started my minimal bullet journaling style after reading Ryder Carroll’s book The Bullet Journaling Method. There is no need to read the book, you can learn everything you need to know from the website. But this forced me to go back to the basics of bullet journaling.

I no longer make fantasy spreads and habit trackers. I have stopped planning my bullet journal. Instead, I start with a monthly overview and create a daily report first thing every morning. I know this sounds obvious, but bullet journaling has become a whole thing. I’m not saying decorative spreads are bad in any way, just that there are a lot of variations from the basic bullet journal method.

One of the benefits of using a minimalist bullet journal style is that you don’t need to be artistic to create something beautiful and spectacular. Because, yes, a minimal bullet journal can still be beautiful.

Something I would recommend to anyone wanting to try a more minimalist style. Or those who are overwhelmed by the numerous decoration and extension options. It’s about getting back to the basics of Journal Bolt. It doesn’t have to be a new notebook, but start a whole new bullet journaling system by following the basic rules and using it the way it should be used.

Once you get the hang of it, you can add more to your bullet journal. Maybe add some long diary entries at the end of your daily reports. Or you can add stickers or tape to the page. What’s important is figuring out how to make the system work for you. Don’t feel like you need to copy what someone else is doing just because it’s popular.

I wanted to share some suggestions on the types of accessories you can use with your minimal bullet journal. But I also really like working with what I already have before buying more. These supplies were not purchased specifically for my bullet journal. I’m a calligrapher, so these items are usually my most used stationery.

I also have a small collection of washi tape and small stationary items like stickers and stamps that I will use in my bullet journal. I spent a lot of time figuring out what tags to use in my bullet journal. However, for the most part, I don’t go out specifically to find stationery for my bullet journal. If I want a specific type of sticker (such as foil shapes and letters), I tend to use Silhouette Emboss to make those stickers.
