Ever since I started my blog in 2008, I’ve been working to make interior design accessible to everyone. My friends at State Farm recently shared some easy ways to decorate your home on a budget, and I wanted to build on that and share some of my tips, as well as examples of other projects I’ve worked on.
Cheap Decorating Ideas For Living Room Walls On A Budget
A sofa can be one of the most expensive pieces of furniture to buy, so instead of spending thousands, give your old, overstuffed sofa a replacement. First, get a clean towel and wet it a little, it should be wet to the touch and not dripping. Then wipe the surface of the sofa with a towel; you will see a surprising amount of dust coming out. Then grab a hand toaster, you can find them at big box stores for about $20 and burn the couch. The steam will help loosen wrinkles, and help kill germs and bacteria and keep the fabric fresh.

After everything is cleaned, it’s time for fun: choosing new pillows! It is very cheap, and this is good because it has to be changed often to keep the sofa looking good. Along with new throw pillows, you should also choose a new throw. Fold the throw blanket neatly into a rectangle, then wrap it around one arm for a neat look. Throws and cushions are a great way to add color, texture or texture to your sofa or chair. They are also inexpensive, and you can find them at any home improvement store. I like to change mine with the seasons; it helps keep my home fresh and new.
If you’re looking for a quick and easy way to change the look of your room, we all know that painting a wall is a great way to do it. But one wall or painting with dark colors often makes a room look small – I think we have all experienced, or know someone who has a problem with the color black. I know I did!
Here’s my recipe for a good fix: get a wall that’s three-quarters or half the entire length. It makes the ceiling look higher, which makes the room look bigger. Plus, you’ll save a lot of money on paint! With this method, feel free to explore rich and dark colors and use a light color on the ceiling because this will help make the room brighter and brighter. Take a look at the bedroom I designed below, where I used dark green on the bottom half of the room to create a relaxed and comfortable feel. The green is rich, but the room still feels open and spacious thanks to the half-height painting trick I used. You can see all the results of this in my Reelof room before and after.
This Simple Insights article from State Farm makes a good point that most lenders can’t provide because of a loan. This means no painting or woodworking. Boo! With the minimalist trend growing more and more, many want a chic wooden wall to create an elevated look. My new client was a tenant who couldn’t draw and even if he was allowed to make woodblock prints it would be difficult. However, I have used a clean trick! I found a piece of peel-and-stick paper that had a “model” woodblock print on it. I hung it behind my client’s bed and the change was amazing. It immediately added style, warmth and luxury to the room. It also made the roof height feel doubled because of the straight lines. Check out my IG Reel from this site. Peel and stick paper was easy to install; it took about three hours and cost several hundred dollars. Best of all, when you go out, or you want to have a new look, you just remove the wall. That said, it’s always a good idea to test your wall and follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully.
Modern Living Room Wall Decoration Ideas: Upgrade Your Space
Lighting can make a big difference to the look and feel of your room, but it is often overlooked. I have a guide that can help you make sure your lighting is just right. You should have at least three lights in one room. They are usually:
Lighting has never been easier or cheaper to add to your space. I think you’ve got your ceiling lights fixed since most homes have ceiling lights! A great way to add lighting at eye level is with wall sconces. This immediately adds architectural detail and creates a space that is elevated and alive. You may be worried that wall sconces will be expensive and messy, with new wiring and calls to the electrician and more. Well, don’t worry! Many battery lights (LED lights that burn in a lamp but are powered by a rechargeable battery) are available. You can buy a standard sconce, cut the wires and install the sconce on your wall. Then add a remote controlled battery and you have a sconce that works without cutting into your walls. The same idea can work with table lamps when you don’t have a plug nearby or you want to put it on a bookshelf for example. Now you can leave the table lamp unplugged, charge the battery lamp and you have a new source.
I hope these budget decorating tips have been helpful. Let me know what changes you make to your home! Thanks again to my friends at State Farm for the tips and help with this!

This area didn’t have much to do after we moved. It was just a small box with no character. The addition was a large window, which let in a lot of light, and a wooden floor.
The minuses were the old floor heaters and lamps that we walked into every time we passed the room.
How To Decorate My Living Room On A Budget (16 Easy Ideas)
This 10×10 room is right outside our small entrance, at the front of the house. We are sure of the past, and the owners themselves used it as their restaurant. We don’t need another dining area so it will serve as a living room/living room for now.
The first job I did in this room was to remove the chandelier and all the heaters. We don’t need heaters, and they are just ugly, so I removed them and repaired all the holes and damaged walls.
I also removed the old thermostat and filled the hole, as well as all the other holes and nail channels.
The next step was to seal all the windows and doors (a problem with old houses) and then it was time to start the repairs.

At this point in the project I was very ready to get some paint on the walls. First, though, I rolled a few layers of clear white paint on the ceiling. What a change it was!
The deck also has several coats of the same color I used throughout the house, Behr Polar Bear mixed in BM Advance.
Finally it was time to paint the wall. I have used this house to test different sheens, which is a soft white matte sheen. The walls of this building have many flaws so I was expecting it to not look good
