Draw a triangle in the center of the card with a pencil. This triangle is for you to have an idea of where to draw the banner.

After you’ve outlined the triangle and are happy with its placement, remove it a bit. You want a very soft mark on the triangle.

Now that you know where the banner goes, draw a continuous “S” shape to draw the banner. The triangle will help us know the width of the banner.

Christmas Card Making

Before you start drawing the banner, make sure it is far enough to the holiday you want to write on the banner.

For this card I want to write “Good luck and happy every day”. So the length of this banner is perfect for that quote.

Make any necessary changes you want to the banner. I recommend that before starting the banner, make sure you connect the ends and sides of the banner.

Draw a V shape on both ends of the banner to close it. Then attach both “continuous S” shapes at the end on both sides.

Trace over the banner design with the Micron Pen 05, or you can use any other black monoline pen of your choice. When you’re done sketching the banner doodle, erase the pencil marks.

I used my Micron 08 and went over the tape again so it looked a little better.

To make the banner more beautiful, you can add details to the back of the banner, where the calligraphy writing will not be.

I added lines very close together. You can choose to draw different details or color completely like I did for this DIY card for Father’s Day.

Quick, Easy & Beautiful Card Ideas!

As I mentioned before, I write “Merry Everything and Happy Always” in the banner. Feel free to write a holiday offer you want on this card.

PRO TIP: Choose the offer you want to write on your DIY card BEFORE you draw the banner. That way, you know the length and width of your banner and outline the quote in the banner first with a pencil.

If you want to learn more about faux calligraphy, check out the workbook I created where I show you everything you need to learn how to create modern calligraphy with your favorite pen.

As you can see, the last word is not centered, so I added some embellishments at the end. That’s one of the reasons I recommend sketching everything out first. Outlining with a pencil will help you space your words on the tape.

To add small lines to the ribbon I used a Micron 01. Drawing lines to the end of the banner makes it a bit more realistic.

Draw a star at the top of the banner: For this type of star, you should make diamonds right next to each other until you form the star.

To give it more dimension, add a line in the center of each diamond shape and color every other place.

If you want, you can leave the card as is. But you can add more details to the map. Using the gel pen, add smaller stars around the banner. You can use the same Silver Paint Pen for these details.

How To Make Personalized Christmas Cards

Draw small stars and dots around the banner. I think this makes it pop a bit more and gives it a more festive and Christmasy look.

This step is not necessary, but I think it will add more pop to the card if you add a drop shadow to the letters. To add shadows to the letters, add a line to the right and below each part of the letters with the micron pen.

What do you think? I just love how this card looks. The color pops off the kraft paper. And I just love the combination of the craft paper with the silver, which looks like white in the video and pictures, but it’s silver. The silver lettering goes well with the details I added with the Sakura Gelly Roll Pen.

Very little Christmas shopping used on this one! The cuttlebug folder is Winter Tress and I used my Tim Holtz embossing diffuser to leave an oval on the bottom so I could stamp directly onto the card stock. The stamp used came from Stampin Up Welcome Christmas, then just put on a thin gold ribbon, and die a flower from the Die – Namics Upsey Daisies die. I used Stampin Up Chery Cobbler and pretty Hunter cardstock to try and make it look like a poinsettia. had a lovely morning with my ladies this morning and spent some time in the craft room this afternoon mainly looking for stuff – gotta clean that room!
