Christmas Card Design Ideas To Draw

Christmas Card Design Ideas To Draw – Although the last few months have been a time to remodel my kitchen. But I managed to finish drawing Christmas cards this year. Same goes for my last few cards. This card is completely digital.

“Fully digital” just isn’t true. The same goes for most of my illustrations. I start with a pencil sketch. To design this card I decided on a reindeer. My first thought was of a reindeer with long horns covered in accessories.

My process involves scanning my sketches and bringing them into Adobe Illustrator, where I trace and make any edits. While I’m gone. I usually start with a flat shape. Create examples using the correct colors and from there. My deer design remains mostly the same. But I decided to ditch the long horns and accessories. And then put it in a night environment instead. I also changed the pose a bit and gave it a small rounded nose.

Once the initial layout and colors are in place. So I sketched a deer in black. I don’t want the deer to compete with the background. So I didn’t sketch anything else in the scene.

My final step was to bring the image into Photoshop once I had used the various brushes. To make my illustrations look softer and more painterly, most of the Photoshop brushes I use are Kyle T. Webster’s, which are really nice and the most natural looking I’ve ever used. For this illustration I used mostly gouache and crosshatch brushes. This is the final version of my illustration. Use a pencil to draw a triangle line down the center of the card. This triangle is to show you where you will draw your banner.

After we’ve sketched out our triangle and are satisfied with its position, let’s do a little subtraction. You want a very soft mark on the triangle.

Now that you know where the banner will go, make a continuous “S” shape to stretch the banner. The triangle will help us to know the width of the banner.

Before you start creating the banner. Make sure it’s long enough for the holiday phrase you want to write in the banner.

For this card I will write “Merry everything and happy never” so the length of the banner is perfect for that statement.

Make your desired changes to the banner. I recommend doing this before you ink the banner. Make sure you attach the ends and sides of your banner.

Make a V shape at both ends of the banner to close it. Then connect two “consecutive S” shapes at either end.

Trace the banner drawing using your Micron 05 pen or you can use another black monoline pen. Which you can choose. When you’re done sketching your banner doodle, erase the pencil marks.

I used Micron 08 and painted it over the ribbon again to make it look a little better.

To make the banner more beautiful you can add details to the back of your banner that will not require calligraphy.

I added lines very close together. You can choose to draw details or colors. Just like you did with this DIY Father’s Day card.

As already mentioned. I am writing “Merry Everything and Happy Always” on the banner. You can write your desired holiday quote on this card.

PRO TIP: Choose the words you’ll write on the DIY card before you draw the banner. This will give you an idea of the length and width of your banner. And outline the words inside the banner first in pencil.

If you want to know more about artificial calligraphy. Please take a look at the workbook I created. Where I’ll show you everything you need to learn how to create modern calligraphy using your favorite pen.

As you can see. The last word is not in the middle. So I added some decorations at the end. This is one of the reasons I recommend you sketch everything out first. Sketching in pencil will help you leave space between words in the ribbon.

To add small lines inside the ribbon, I used Micron 01. Drawing lines at the end of the banner makes it look a bit more realistic.

Draw a star on the top of the banner: For this type of star you have to glue the diamonds together until you get a star.

Add a line in the center of each diamond shape and color in the space to add more dimension.

You can leave the card this way if you want. But you can add additional details to the card. Take a gel roll pen and add small stars around the banner. You can use the same silver pen for these details.

One Layer Rustic Wreath Christmas Card

Draw little stars and dots around the banner I think this color makes it stand out a bit and makes it more festive and Christmassy.

This step is not necessary. But I think when you add shadows to the letters it really adds more character to the card. Add lines below and to the right of each part of the letter using a micron pen to add shading to the letters.

What do you think? I love the look of this card. The color will come off the kraft paper. And I love the combination of kraft paper and silver. It appears white in videos and photos. But it is silver. The silver lettering went well with the details I added with the Sakura Jelly Roll Pen.

It doesn’t take long and I think it’s fun for you to be creative and give something meaningful to your loved one.
