What I really wanted was some Christmas imagery that would be the focal point of our space when we talk about Advent on Christmas Eve.
I love all things vintage, so I decided to hunt down vintage christmas movies. And I found two men who were perfectly suited to the sight; They both have a vintage feel and are cute enough that I know my girls will love them.
I looked at the papers and printed them large (24″ x 36″) and placed them on IKEA boards I had on hand, very cheap but perfect for the season.
Many of you seemed very interested in these printables, so the downloads have been posted here – you can print them yourself! I print at Walgreens because it’s convenient where we live, but I know Costco and Office Depot also offer this type of printing for cheap!

I placed the objects outside the whiteboards, photographed them in natural light, and made a photograph. Make the light as dim as possible during the day or filter in the shade to avoid creating harsh shadows. After that, you just need to select the image and print it wherever the printing program is available. As I said above, I had the staples printed. Just be sure to double-check your profile as soon as you download it. The folks at Staples decided that I should resize the print twice and print it that way, which was very frustrating because I didn’t notice until I got home and was ready to start my project.

1. Before applying the machine print, I added a layer of white acrylic with a hard brush to give the canvas some texture and make it look more like a real painting. Let the paint dry.

3. After this it’s time to cover the entire cover with a roller, or you can use a brush like I did in the video tutorial.
4. Place the project printout on the wall. Use the brush and your fingers to lift it. Using a large brush and your fingers, apply another coat of mod-podium to the shape. You can cut small holes in the hollow air bubbles to help flatter the track.
6. When the paint was dry, I added acrylic paint to the image and the surrounding areas as shown in the video tutorial. You don’t have to do this step, but it adds dimension and texture to the overall look of your Christmas wall art, and makes it look more like a real picture.
