Your First Magazine Art Project with Kids When I introduce magazine collections to my kids, they cut out the pictures they like.
They mostly cut animals, people or figures. Her interpretation of the collage is very literal; for them, collage means cutting out what you like without overlapping, adding selected images side by side.

I think this project was very successful because I created my own collections at the same time as my children and modeled more unexpected ways to overlap or combine elements than they imagined. With a little thought and encouragement, my son cracked his first collection at age 7. I really like how she added the glasses to the moon and blue eyes! She used magazine clippings, faces of our family (printed from my desktop printer), and a Sharpie to add the handwritten elements. Some of his favorite things were cut: a snake and an apple!
I really like that he drew bodies and arms for his people. Even some of his favorite things, apples and snakes were included in the artwork!
